The current prequalification assessment process for IVDs has been in place since 2014. WHO has identified the need to revise the WHO prequalification processes for IVDs and to identify opportunities for increased efficiency while preserving the quality of assessments. WHO is seeking for public comments on the proposed revisions to the PQ assessment process for IVDs. Share your comments by 30 November 2024 and help shape the PQ process. As the voice of the IVD industry in Southern Africa, SALDA is dedicated to improving access to diagnostic tools that enhance health outcomes. We engage with government bodies, private entities, and advocacy groups, and other industry stakeholders to support the adoption and availability of these critical technologies, especially in underserved communities. SALDA fosters collaboration with policymakers and regulatory bodies to streamline market access for innovative diagnostic solutions. Our vision for advancing healthcare through diagnostics was highlighted at SALDA IVD Day 2024, held on 4 September at GIBS Business School in Johannesburg. This landmark event explored how diagnostics are essential for creating a more inclusive and efficient healthcare system. Key sessions covered the role of IVDs in National Health Insurance (NHI), with insights from Mr. Fundile Gebremedhin of the Department of Health, highlighting IVDs’ importance in early detection and equitable access under NHI. Thought leaders from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Clinton Health Access Initiative addressed healthcare inequalities and emphasized the importance of scalable, accessible diagnostics. POC testing and self-testing were recognized as game-changers for delivering faster results in resource-limited settings. Panel discussions with speakers from WITS Diagnostic Innovation Hub and EZINTSHA examined the future of diagnostics within Universal Health Coverage (UHC), focusing on balancing innovation with patient access. The event concluded with a final panel titled "Regulatory, Market Access, and Reimbursement for IVDs," featuring insights from SAHPRA, NHLS, the National Pathology Group (NPG), and Discovery. As we celebrate this milestone, SALDA remains committed to advocating for the critical role of diagnostics in transforming healthcare.
