Meet Kyle Richard. He graduated last spring with a degree in electrical engineering. Here's what he had to share about his experience with UMPPF: "UMPFF has provided me with endless opportunities and support throughout my college career. These opportunities include being able to network with industry professionals, being presented with many job opportunities (co-op and full-time), and building lifelong relationships with so many great people within the foundation. UMPPF has made my college experience unlike any other with the unique support and guidance that you can only find here at the Foundation." We may be biased, but we agree – the UMPPF experience is like none other and can’t be found anywhere else! Congratulations, Kyle, on your position at SAPPI in Skowhegan, Maine! 👏 #UMPPF #2024GraduateHighlight #FutureEngineer

Trees are a big part of what we do at Sappi🌳. The September image of our 2024 AI calendar beautifully depicts a tree as the nurturer of life in an intricate wood engraving style. Our business relies on forests. At Sappi, we are deeply committed to investing in and promoting healthy forests. Guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, we have developed our sustainability goals to fulfil our responsibility for a thriving world. We're thrilled to report that our Group delivered EBITDA (earnings) more than 40% above the prior year, reaching US$151 million! Despite the third quarter being a seasonally slower period for our business and the sluggish global economy, our results were in line with our guidance. The underlying profitability, excluding a $30 million impact from scheduled maintenance shutdowns at Saiccor and Somerset mills, remained steady quarter-on-quarter. Sustained strong market conditions in the pulp segment, coupled with a gradual recovery in the paper markets, drive this pleasing performance. I’m pleased that Project Elevate, the $418 million project to rebuild and expand Paper Machine 2 at Somerset Mill, is progressing on schedule and on budget. I always remind people that this project isn't just a rebuild of a paper machine, it's really an expansion in Sappi North America. Construction is going well, and the exterior of the new building is complete. The project moves forward every single day. I am proud of the outstanding work by our team at Somerset, which is operating at full capacity during this construction, as well as by our contractors, who are on track to complete the massive construction project on time. Our people are our company, and the people here are fully committed. We see that in their safety performance, and in their creative solutions to different challenges. The investments in our world-class facilities are truly setting us up for the future and ensuring success for generations to come. I thank all of you for your hard work and stay safe out there.
