Congratulations to the analysts and our colleagues in Sales & Execution, Research Support, Client Experience and Administration, Operations, Compliance & Supervisory, People & Culture, Legal, and IT.

The Financial Mail’s 48th annual ‘Ranking The Analysts Awards’ took place recently, where the Standard Bank Group, and its subsidiary SBG Securities, again ranked first as South Africa’s ‘Top Research firm’. The survey garnered the assessments of 49 South African institutions appraising 40 research categories. Standard Bank/SBG Securities ranked 1st in 21 categories.    This year’s achievement marks the eighth year, in the past nine years, that we achieved overall 1st place, and affirms our thought leadership and depth of coverage where we infuse multidisciplinary insights in our clients’ investment processes. Our team also earned accolades for equity sales, equities execution and administrative efficiency.    Congratulations to the analysts and our colleagues in Sales & Execution, Research Support, Administration, Compliance & Supervisory, People and Culture, and IT. A Legend has Fallen - Passing of Dr David (Doc) Davis Our former colleague Dr David (Doc) Davis sadly passed away on 10th April 2024, aged 77. David was part of the SBG Securities mining team until 2015 and was a top-rated analyst for many years in the Gold and Platinum sectors. Doc, Doccie or Doc D as he was more affectionately known, had been associated with the South African mining and mining investment industry for the past 45 years, mainly in PGMs, gold and uranium. Doc remained active post his retirement from SBG Securities and actively worked as an independent precious metal consultant up until his passing. He was born in Nairobi, Kenya on 30 March 1947 and attended Nairobi Primary School and Delamere High School, also in Nairobi. He left Kenya with his family in 1963 and completed his schooling at Ramsey Grammar School on The Isle of Man where the family had settled. After school he attended Loughborough College, Nottingham Trent University, where he obtained an MSc and finally Aston University, Birmingham, where he obtained his PhD entitled “Studies in the catalytic reduction and decomposition of nitric oxide (1976)”. Doc will be sorely missed by all at SBG Securities and Standard Bank as well as across the global mining and investment industries. Our deepest condolences to Corne, Catherine, Nicholas, Samantha and Nicola. #DrDavidDavis #sbgsecurities #gold #platinum #uranium
