Finally, the historic moment arrived that we were all enthusiastically awaiting. Prof Linda-Gail Bekker presented the pioneering results of the Gilead Sciences Purpose 1 trial. With zero infections and 100% efficacy, this is indeed a milestone moment within the history of HIV/AIDS research. And what an honour to have contributed to this, having been a participating site in this study. This result speaks directly to our vision of making a global health impact, and is truly humbling. We are so proud of our team, led by our Principal Investigator Dr Khatija Ahmed , for all their efforts towards this achievement. #TogetherWeCan #AIDS2024 #Purpose1 #GileadSciences

We are loving the AIDS 2024 conference thus far, which is currently underway in Munich, Germany. The 25th International AIDS conference has approximately 15000 attendees and is themed "Putting People First". Its been jam-packed, and we are thoroughly enjoying it - the sessions have been thought provoking and we are priveliged to be a part of these critical discussions that are shaping the future of HIV/AIDS research. Not forgetting the opportunity to network and learn from fellow research colleagues, which is invaluable. We were able to make an impact to 4 old age homes, 2 community centres and a local feeding scheme... this is indeed hearts work!! Results from an interim analysis of the pivotal Purpose 1 trial by Gilead Sciences, have demonstrated zero infections and 100% efficacy of the product, Lenacapavir, for HIV prevention. These results have demonstrated the potential of this twice-yearly injectable as an important new addition to the HIV prevention toolkit. SRC is proud to have been a participating site in the Purpose 1 trial and looks forward to additional results from Gilead's landmark PURPOSE program. Study participants will now be unblinded and the product will be offered open-label to all participants.
