  • 🎬 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 🌍 In the ever-evolving world of storytelling, staying fresh is everything. Just ask The White Lotus creator, Mike White. With each season of the Emmy-winning series, White reinvents the narrative—shifting locations, expanding themes, and embracing new creative challenges. Season 1 explored privilege, Season 2 delved into power and desire, and now, Season 3 takes us to Thailand 🇹🇭, tackling spirituality and existential questions. His approach? “For the show to feel fresh, it needs to either expand or shift or change.” For upcoming African filmmakers and actors, White’s journey is a masterclass in adaptability. Whether it’s shifting genres, embracing new landscapes, or even drawing inspiration from unexpected moments (like a nebuliser-induced fever dream that led to White's idea for this entire season’s storyline 😳), the key is to evolve. As African productions continue to make waves 🌊 on the global stage, what’s your next creative leap? Catch The White Lotus Season 3 on Showmax, with new episodes every Monday. https://shw.mx/3Fa1Vzm #Showmax #TheWhiteLotus #filmmaking

  • 𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐎𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 In Under the Influence, Dante Okere's Folarin is the kind of influencer who thrives on status—until someone threatens to take his spot. As Dami (Iremide Adeoye) rises, Folarin's dominance starts to slip, and his once carefully curated world becomes harder to control. 👀 For Dante, stepping into the role of a stylish yet ruthless antagonist was an opportunity he'd been waiting for. "Playing the villain is very enticing," he says. But Folarin's downfall isn't just about power—it's about the moment when social media clout stops translating into real-world influence. "Folarin, from the character, just felt too comfortable. He felt untouchable," says Dante. "So, I think fame got into his head... Folarin is a bad guy – you’re going to hate him." Read more from our chat with Dante about his character's troubles: https://shw.mx/43xSaVC With influencer culture evolving, Under the Influence highlights the shifting dynamics of digital fame, where perception can change in an instant. • The second instalment of Steinheist, Showmax’s record-breaking documentary, unpacks the aftermath of the Steinhoff scandal. This crisis wiped R200 billion off the JSE and left South African pensioners, fund managers, and regulators scrambling for answers. With exclusive interviews from top financial experts, regulators, and investigative journalists—including SA Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago and FSCA market abuse head Alex Pascoe—episodes 4 and 5 track the slow but steady progress of accountability. From insider trading prosecutions to asset seizures and international convictions, the fallout is still unfolding. As accountant Khaya Sithole warns in the documentary, “We didn’t see this one coming. That means we probably can’t see the next one coming unless we do things differently.” 📢 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐦𝐚𝐱 📅 Episodes 4 & 5 premiere on Showmax on 20 March 2025. 🔗 Watch the trailer and stream the first three episodes now. https://shw.mx/4byGcNr #Steinheist #WatchShowmax #ShowmaxOriginals

At Showmax, storytelling is at the heart of everything we do. This International Women’s Day, under the theme Accelerate Action, we celebrate the power of stories to challenge perceptions, reshape narratives, and drive real change for women across Africa. From the bold entrepreneurs of The Real Housewives franchise to the fierce queens in Kabiyesi, Wura, Cheta M and the everyday heroines in our local dramas, we are intentional about showcasing diverse, multi-dimensional women—because representation matters. When women see themselves reflected authentically on screen, it fuels ambition, shifts mindsets, and accelerates the action needed for gender equality. Beyond entertainment, storytelling is a tool for advocacy. It sparks conversations, influences culture, and inspires policy changes. At Showmax, we are committed to using our platform to amplify the voices of women, break stereotypes, and ensure that African women’s stories are told on their own terms. This IWD, let’s not just celebrate women—let’s take action. Let’s continue to tell stories that empower, that demand change, and that remind the world of the unstoppable force that is the African woman. #IWD2024 #AccelerateAction #ShowmaxStories

  • 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐢 𝐍𝐨𝐤𝐰𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐓 Great acting isn’t just about memorising lines—it’s about becoming the character. For Kanyi Nokwe, playing Lady T in the Showmax Original Soft Life was all about pulling from real experiences to make the character feel real. 💡 “When you are cast in a role, you naturally start to create that character by finding aspects of them that are hidden aspects of yourself,” she says. Despite Lady T being far from who she is in real life, Kanyi found ways to connect with her. Growing up in Johannesburg, she witnessed the realities of sex work and club culture firsthand. She didn’t have to rely on second-hand stories—she had seen it herself. That lived experience shaped how she portrayed Lady T’s strength, control, and ability to navigate a world built on discretion. Kanyi believes every role has a piece of the actor inside it. “I am never afraid to explore my darkness and find ways to safely channel it into storytelling. That, in itself, is a form of authenticity,” she explains. For actors, the lesson is clear: Your experiences—both light and dark—can bring truth to any character. ✨ How do you find the truth in your roles? Watch Soft Life now, streaming on Showmax. 💅🏿 https://shw.mx/3EH741r #ShowmaxOriginal #SoftLife
