  • Congratulations to the young spelling bee champions at Ebenezer Majombozi High School. These brave grade 8 and 9 word-warriors braved the stage spelling isiXhosa and English words confidently in front of their schoolmates, our bumb’INGOMSO team, and the community. An infectious spirit of camaraderie, support, and competitiveness filled the venue. As the spelling bee concluded, the top 10 victors in both languages were announced and acknowledged; while the top five, top three, and the winners received prizes. All participants received praise and acknowledgement for their dedication and their moment to bask in the spotlight. #FlashbackFriday #spellingbee

Youth for Change: Eradicating Underage Drinking As the year draws to an end, anxieties rise for many learners facing their final exams with many looking forward to destressing post-exams with a drink or two. Sadly, not all enjoyment is done responsibly with many youths engaging in underage drinking to keep up with the ‘Pens Down’ trend. Substance abuse among our learners, particularly after exams, has been a growing concern. In a bid to counter eventualities, our bumb'INGOMSO HIV Prevention Project recently joined the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) in Zwelitsha, King William’s Town for an ‘Anti-Pens Down Campaign’ launch. Inspired by the 2022 Enyobeni tragedy where 22 young learners lost their lives, the campaign aims to combat underage drinking and beckon parents to stop sending their children to taverns to buy them alcohol. ECLB further emphasised that children become what they behold and seeing their parents drinking influences their own behaviour. They further urged parents to set a good example for their children to protect them from underage drinking. Learners and teachers from surrounding schools, social workers, and Legal Aid representatives were also in attendance. The event concluded with learners pledging that they will not drink alcohol as their futures matter under the banner: ‘My Future Matters, Alcohol Must Wait’. In this final stretch before the holidays and the school break, remember that you want to be somebody one day. Do not let temptation derail you or change the trajectory of your future. We challenge every young person to: PUT THE GLASS DOWN! CHOOSE TO BE SOBER! #ChooseSobriety
