Upcoming Registration Alert: Cosmetic Science Course (Module 1) We are excited to announce that registration for our Cosmetic Science Course (Module 1) will open on 23 September 2024. Please note that early applications will not be accepted—everyone will have an equal opportunity to register on this date. This comprehensive two-year course, administered by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, covers a wide range of topics. The first-year dives into the chemistry side of cosmetics, with 27 lectures covering everything from biochemistry, emulsions, and surface chemistry to surfactants and skin care. The second-year shifts focus to essential business topics like marketing, labelling, and legislation. You are also tasked with a product brief, you would then be required to source the formulation, source the raw materials, conduct the stability testing and then submit your final product to the Education Officer. Our course is designed to equip you with the skills to formulate cosmetic products from understanding cell physiology to the creation of finished products. Given the high demand, we limit our intake to only 40 students each year. Make sure to mark your calendar for 23 September 2024—this is your opportunity to advance your career in cosmetic science! Senolytics is the next generation approach in skin care, targeting the root cause of skin aging and improving the skin's overall health and appearance. Aurelie BARBA, DSM-Firmench, France, will present on how the powerful Epilobium Fleischeri Extract removes senescent cells in the skin's tissues, paving the way for infinite well-aging. Artur Martí Peraire from Evonik, Spain is ‘hair ‘ today, but gone tomorrow! His presentation will incorporate the latest studies on the synergistic activity between Ceramide NG and natural lipids that have been shown to visibly reduce hair breakage in various hair types, including afro-textured hair. Phumelele Kleyi from CSIR, South Africa will present on the applications of LDH’s (layered double hydroxides), which due to their extraordinary physicochemical properties, assists in circumventing these drawbacks.   Things are starting to heat up with the attention on global climate control. Looking ahead, is Symrise’s focus on how the skin will respond to such external environmental aggravators. Marcel van Rooyen will relay how consumers can have access to products and technologies facilitating skin adaption to climate shifts.   Venla Saaristo from Croda Beauty Actives, France is all about holistic well-being, starting from the cell-to-cell interactions within the skin. The efficacy of a cosmetic cream to reduce the skin sensitivity via the inclusion of active ingredients can be measured verses placebo.
