Reflecting on Tafta's AGM and the Evolving Landscape of Support
Today, as I addressed our stakeholders, elders, care partners, colleagues, and supporters at Tafta's AGM, I felt immense pride in all that we have accomplished. Please take a moment to explore our AGM report and see the impact of our work.
During the discussion, a resident shared a personal experience about feeling unsupported during a medical situation, highlighting the limited availability of social workers. My first thought was that, given our community of over 1,600 residents, it may not be feasible to provide a dedicated social worker to each individual. But what truly stood out was her gratitude for a fellow resident who stepped in to help during her recovery.
This conversation raised two important considerations:
The Expectation of Support – What does support really mean in a diverse community?
A Broader View of Support – While having a social worker is valuable, it’s not the only solution. Support can come from many sources—neighbors, friends, family, and spiritual groups. A social worker isn’t an end in itself but part of a larger support network that we all contribute to.
As we adapt to the realities of ageing, it's clear that creating a community of care is a shared responsibility. It’s about building circles of support that go beyond any single role or resource.
What are your thoughts on how we can foster this collective approach?
Finally, a question was raised about the CEO’s role in addressing concerns directly, which I’ll explore further in my next post. For now, grab a coffee or tea and dive into the incredible work we’ve achieved at Tafta.
