𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸!💡This year, we’re celebrating under the theme "Building Strong Foundations", recognising how After School Programmes (ASPs) lay the groundwork for our learners’ future success. ASPs are more than just a space to spend time after school—they are essential in building the academic, social, and emotional foundations that help learners thrive. Since 2000, #LightsOnAfterSchool by the Afterschool Alliance has been shining a light on the importance of ASPs worldwide. This year, we’re excited to highlight how ASPs are empowering South Africa’s youth by providing critical support in under-resourced communities. Join us as we celebrate the lasting impact of ASPs! 💪 Visit our new and updated resource hub to learn more and participate in this year's #LightsOnAfterSchool campaign: https://lnkd.in/dAfcudr3 #BeyondTheClassroom #LightsOnAfterSchool #AfterSchoolSA #TheLearningTrust #AfterSchoolWorks #TLT #LOAS #BuildingStrongFoundations

About us
The Learning Trust is a non-profit, grant making and capacity support service provider whose focus is to support and strengthen local, effective and sustained educational interventions that target South Africa's children growing up in conditions of poverty and exclusion. As a well-regarded grant maker, we provide financial support and build the capacity of over 60 small, community-based organisations in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng. We do this through focused training, mentoring and ongoing coaching in a variety of organisational development areas. Our strong relationships with our grantees allow for significant growth and development over an extended period of time. We have established ourselves as a respected facilitator in the transformation of the After School/extended learning sector in South Africa and support the creation of collaborative education clusters within the three provinces we currently serve.

On October 24, 2024, AfterSchool organisations across the country celebrated the LightsON AfterSchool Campaign! From bustling cities to rural areas of the Eastern Cape (Phakama Peddie!), the energy was contagious. I was on the ground with Matlhogonolo Community Outreach Centre NPO 192 - 939(MCOC), shining a spotlight on the importance of AfterSchool programmes. MCOC proudly introduced us to a new invention by one of their learners—a robot that detects dry soil and triggers watering in the garden. This innovation is incredibly useful for garden maintenance. This learner doesn’t have access to robotics classes at school; they gained these skills through their AfterSchool programme. This is a powerful reminder of why AfterSchool programmes are essential, offering young people learning opportunities beyond traditional classrooms. A heartfelt salute to all the AfterSchool Champions who continue driving this impactful work, and to the Social Employment Fund for expanding the sector’s reach to support more children and young people! Working for the common good! The Learning Trust #AfterSchoolWorks #WorkforCommonGood #EmpoweringLives #LightsOnAfterSchool #SocialEmploymentFund
