Transnet Board Chairperson Andile Sangqu was a featured guest speaker at an event hosted by the Sandton branch of the Black Management Forum. The event's theme, "Developing the Next Generation of Professionals: Being the Senior You Needed When You Were a Junior," set the stage for Sangqu to share insights from his extensive career in the mining industry and his leadership in implementing the #TransnetRecoveryPlan. In his speech, Sangqu reflected on his upbringing, academic and corporate experiences, and the lessons he has learned throughout his distinguished career. During the Q&A session, young professionals asked about his role at Transnet and the challenges faced by State-owned enterprises. Sangqu responded, “What truly builds societies are strong institutions. This is why some of us answered the call to serve in government. The future of this country depends on rebuilding these institutions. They provide services, construct roads, attract investment, and instill confidence in our nation. Infrastructure plays a key role in this, and our goal should not only be to repair it but to improve the quality of life for our people. We must do whatever it takes to restore our institutions—that's what will make a difference in this country."

Transnet and South African Police Service (SAPS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Transnet School of Rail in Kempton Park. The purpose of the MoU is to strengthen collaborative efforts between Transnet and SAPS in the fight against theft and vandalism of essential infrastructure across Transnet’s logistics network. Transnet Group Chief Executive, Michelle Phillips said the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding between Transnet and the SAPS represents a critical step forward in securing our country’s essential infrastructure and combating organised crime. Our partnership with SAPS has already yielded significant successes. One notable example is the dedicated support that SAPS provided to Transnet Pipelines where specialised resources helped us combat the theft and damage to our fuel infrastructure. By working together, we can ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of our critical infrastructure. “The protection of critical and essential infrastructure is a priority for the SAPS, and a partnership such as this one is greatly welcome as it will enable better coordination of resources between the SAPS and Transnet. Damage to Transnet infrastructure constitutes economic sabotage, and in line with our mandate, we must act against any form of attacks on Transnet infrastructure,” General Masemola added #TransnetRecoveryPlan #TransnetMoUSigning

#TNPAChristeningEL | During his speech, Transnet SOC Ltd Board Chairperson, Andile Sangqu reaffirmed Transnet's commitment to unlocking the industrial development and economic growth of the Eastern Cape with maritime industry stakeholders. He highlighted key expansion plans for South Africa's unique river port, including the deepening and strengthening of the port's automotive berth to address docking challenges. A significant milestone was reached in November 2023 with the start of the concrete works package. Once completed the port will be able to simultaneously berth two larger vessels resulting in increased volume throughput, this is progressive for the port and the province. “Investing in port infrastructure to drive efficiency and reliability is a catalyst for improved economic competitiveness. Ports are the lifeblood of trade, the gateways through which goods flow in and out of our economy” the Chairperson stated. Catch the event here: https://lnkd.in/dCs34HD8
