In a strategic partnership set to boost the tourism economy of the King Cetshwayo District, Port of Richards Bay in collaboration with the City of uMhlathuze local Municipality, welcomed the SH Diana passenger vessel to its shores. Opening Richards Bay cruise season for the second consecutive year, the docking of SH Diana reflects the port’s growing role in South Africa’s cruise tourism sector giving an opportunity for the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, to showcase its rich cultural heritage to international tourists as the gateway to the heart of Zululand. Built in 2023, the passenger's vessel sailed into the port carrying approximately 250 passengers and 200 crew members onboard, making Richards Bay an appealing destination for international travelers.

Transnet National Ports Authority has published a Request for Information (RFI) for a strategic pilot project to use green and cleaner fuels for its selected diesel-operated tugboat fleet. The project aligns with Transnet’s commitment to bolster South Africa’s just transition journey to a low carbon-economy focused on cleaner, renewable and green fuels. The RFI has invited interested parties to submit proposals for the technical assessment on old diesel tugboats. The scope of work includes information regarding assessing the condition of the existing tugboats, evaluating components such as the diesel engines, inspecting the mechanical and structural compartments for potential new components or modifications. South Africa Cruise Season kicks off with World Odyssey The arrival of World Odyssey at the Port of Cape Town on the morning of 22 October 2024 heralded the start of the 2024/25 cruise season in South Africa. Sailing under the flag of the Bahamas, the World Odyssey cruise liner brought approximately 538 international tourists onboard, paving the way for a projected 130,000 tourists anticipated to visit Cape Town during this cruise season. This season, 268 scheduled passenger liners, representing an increase from 207 call-ins in the previous year are expected to pull alongside seven South African commercial seaports operated by Transnet National Ports Authority.

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) today signed a 15-year lease agreement with South32 Hillside Aluminium (Pty) Ltd for an aluminium component manufacturing and storage facility at the Port of Richards Bay. The facility, which includes key operational areas for Hillside Aluminium is zoned for commercial and industrial use to ensure compliance with strategic development goals.
