In a strategic partnership set to boost the tourism economy of the King Cetshwayo District, Port of Richards Bay in collaboration with the City of uMhlathuze local Municipality, welcomed the SH Diana passenger vessel to its shores. Opening Richards Bay cruise season for the second consecutive year, the docking of SH Diana reflects the port’s growing role in South Africa’s cruise tourism sector giving an opportunity for the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, to showcase its rich cultural heritage to international tourists as the gateway to the heart of Zululand. Built in 2023, the passenger's vessel sailed into the port carrying approximately 250 passengers and 200 crew members onboard, making Richards Bay an appealing destination for international travelers.

Transnet National Ports Authority has published a Request for Information (RFI) for a strategic pilot project to use green and cleaner fuels for its selected diesel-operated tugboat fleet. The project aligns with Transnet’s commitment to bolster South Africa’s just transition journey to a low carbon-economy focused on cleaner, renewable and green fuels. The RFI has invited interested parties to submit proposals for the technical assessment on old diesel tugboats. The scope of work includes information regarding assessing the condition of the existing tugboats, evaluating components such as the diesel engines, inspecting the mechanical and structural compartments for potential new components or modifications. PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | The Port of Ngqura is one of three strategic ports identified for liquefied natural gas importation, supporting South Africa’s Gas to Power Programme. The Transnet National Ports Authority is set to develop the necessary marine and landside infrastructure. This project, valued at R2.1 billion, is among the top 12 infrastructure priority projects receiving project preparation support from Infrastructure South Africa, which includes pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, as well as environmental authorisations. Transnet National Ports Authority celebrates Kwanele Mtembu, M.Inst.D, MBA, MCIPS(CS), who was selected as the winner of two prestigious awards during the 2024 Pan African Supply Chain Awards ceremony recently held at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. Kwanele scooped the Best Contribution to the Reputation of Profession Award and the Appreciation Award, for her significant impact to the advancement of supply chain management across the African continent. These accolades highlight her dedication to innovation, efficiency and sustainable practices, setting a high standard of excellence in the industry. Kwanele is the Regional Procurement Manager responsible for the ports of East London, Port Elizabeth and Ngqura. Congratulations Kwanele!

Seven of South Africa’s commercial seaports are at the heart of driving economic growth and social responsibility, serving as a gateway for international trade as the 2024/25 Cruise Seasons kicks off. As a strategic enabler of cruise tourism, Transnet National Ports Authority has ensured sufficient provision of marine services, which include pilotage, berth availability, berthing crews to ensure safe navigation of passenger vessels call-ins to its ports. South Africa Cruise Season kicks off with World Odyssey   The arrival of World Odyssey at the Port of Cape Town on the morning of 22 October 2024 heralded the start of the 2024/25 cruise season in South Africa.   Sailing under the flag of the Bahamas, the World Odyssey cruise liner brought approximately 538 international tourists onboard, paving the way for a projected 130,000 tourists anticipated to visit Cape Town during this cruise season.   This season, 268 scheduled passenger liners, representing an increase from 207 call-ins in the previous year are expected to pull alongside seven South African commercial seaports operated by Transnet National Ports Authority.

The week reflects on presentations and panel discussions by key industry experts in the automotive industry. The Acting Port Manager for the Port of Durban: Nkumbuzi Ben-Mazwi alludes to the importance of maintaining good relations between NAAMSA and Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA). The partnership is vital in ensuring the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) utilise port services. Approximately 70% to 80% of the OEM volumes pass through the Port of Durban. TNPAs participation aims to stay on pulse with industry trends, innovation, and excellence in the logistics sectors

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) today signed a 15-year lease agreement with South32 Hillside Aluminium (Pty) Ltd for an aluminium component manufacturing and storage facility at the Port of Richards Bay. The facility, which includes key operational areas for Hillside Aluminium is zoned for commercial and industrial use to ensure compliance with strategic development goals. The signing was witnessed by TNPA Acting Managing Executive: Eastern Region Ports, Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana; TNPA Acting General Manager: Commercial Services, Dineo Mazibuko; TNPA Richards Bay Port Manager, Dennis Mqadi; South32’s Principal: Mining & Property Rights, Alex Mooya; Vice President for Operations, Calvin Mkhabela; and Senior Manager: Stakeholder Relations, Oupa Nkagisang. Hillside Aluminium is the largest aluminium smelter in the southern hemisphere

The conference commenced yesterday and will conclude on 18 October 2024. The NAAMSA Conference focuses on the automotive industry in South Africa, addressing key issues such as policy, innovation, and market trends. It brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the sector. Three South African lighthouses celebrate service milestones this #OctoberTransportMonth: Cape Hermes Lighthouse with 120 years, Green Point KZN Lighthouse with 119 years, and Cape Columbine Lighthouse with 88 years. Transnet National Ports Authority is responsible for South Africa’s 45 lighthouses and other marine Aids to Navigation to assist the navigation of vessels within commercial port limits and along the country’s coast.
