  • Our statement regarding the case that South Africa brought against Israel at the International Court of Justice. We are supportive of the strong stance taken by South Africa in bringing urgent attention to an unprecedented human rights crisis taking place. We are at this crucial moment dependent on world leaders to lead and aim for diplomatic action instead of allowing such disregard for human rights and international law. We support the call of the United Nations secretary-general, Antonio Gutteres, for a two state solution; and the statement of the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commission, that the right of return of all Palestinian refugees to be prioritized as stated by them in June last year.

  • Today we observe International Children’s Day with a very heavy heart. Without singling out any particular country, we must note that more than 80% of the children suffering from malnutrition, on the brink of starvation, are African and Middle Eastern countries. Children are forced into labor in countries like the DRC and Sudan to work in the mines for western interests. In Darfur there is a risk of ethnic cleansing as a new surge of killings by the RSF have started as reported last week. Children are used for several forms of exploitation, abused and sold into slavery and prostitution. Children are sold into child marriages, girls are not allowed an education, and so forth. Currently we are witnessing a war that cannot be excused, a war where children are collateral damage. There are no words or reason that can excuse wholesale slaughter of children under the pretense of self defense. We are witnessing international war crimes without condemnation from the same countries that benefit from the exploitation of the children in the mines of DRC and Sudan. Children have the right to food and clean water, education, a safe home and to play. In the Geneva Declaration of Human Rights of 1924 and the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, “the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well after birth”. Indisputably the rights of a child should be sacred and the only consideration for countries that are at war. Any child hindered to claim their rights should be protected and supported by the international community. The UN secretary General has stated the UN’s stance on this human rights violation, the indiscriminate carpet bombing on a population as collateral damage. We support the national community and the UNSC resolution passed for a humanitarian pause in Palestine. We call on a permanent solution and a ceasefire now. #childrenarenotcollateraldamage #therightsofachlld #darfur #congomines #stopthewars #stopchildlabor #ceasefirenow
