Should sustainable efforts and actions be awarded? We think so! All the winners of the 2024 V&A Waterfront Neighbourhood Retail Awards were announced at a gala event held on 25 September, including the Our Better Nature Sustainability Award. This award recognises the tenant that has implemented the most effective and comprehensive sustainability programme within its V&A Waterfront operations. While perfection was not expected, we looked to identify a tenant who has shown genuine effort and progress in their sustainability endeavours, with a commitment to environmental conservation, social responsibility and ethical business practices. Entrants in this category were expected to provide evidence of measurable outcomes, such as reduced carbon footprint, waste reduction, community engagement and/or positive social impact. The winning tenant’s efforts also needed to align with the sustainability goals and values of the V&A Waterfront, contributing to the overall wellbeing of the environment and the community. Sealand Gear was the winner in this category and we salute its efforts - because when we act from our better nature, nature gets better. An award you can’t enter… Part of this year’s V&A Waterfront Neighbourhood Retail Awards was a Special Recognition category, our CEO Award. Here, the winner was chosen by V&A Waterfront CEO, David Green, to honour an exceptional contribution to our strategy, values, community and/or retail industry. There were no specific entry criteria for the CEO Award. Hearty congratulations must go to OZCF who was chosen as the 2024 winner! We send heartfelt thanks to OZCF and all the traders that form part of its market for an outstanding and sustained contribution to our neighbourhood! Recently, David chatted to radio presenter Lester Kiewit of CapeTalk 567 about why he chose the OZCF, and what makes it such a phenomenal farmer’s market. They also spoke about how our neighbourhood is gearing up for the coming festive season. This past week we received multiple awards at the World Travel Awards, where Cape Town Cruise Terminal was named Africa’s Leading Cruise Port for 2024, Cape Grace, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, was recognized as Africa’s Leading Luxury Hotel, and One&Only Cape Town was recognised as Africa’s Leading Luxury Resort, with NAC Helicopters receiving gold in the Helicopters Charters Global Winners category at the World Luxury Awards. This past week at the V&A Waterfront was full of celebrations! The winners of our Retail Tenants Neighbourhood Awards have officially been announced, celebrating the best in retail at the Waterfront. While Zeitz MOCAA celebrated 100 years of the Grain Silo and seven years as Africa’s largest contemporary art museum with the exhibition 'Silo Through the Century: Into the Contemporary', showcasing the remarkable transformation of this historic landmark into a hub for contemporary African art. Pacific World cruise ship docked at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal this morning, marking the start of the 2024/5 cruise season. This year, we have 88 cruise visits scheduled, and 120 000 passengers expected, seeing a significant increase in arrivals and visitors compared to previous years – highlighting Cape Town’s growing reputation as a global cruise destination.
