Meet Preeantha Rampersadh: The Enterprising Changemaker at WSP in Africa 👋 While Preeantha has always had a mind for business, it was amidst her studies she realised that her passion didn’t lie in Business Sciences and changed her major aligned to pursuing a career in property development. After attaining a BSc in Property Development, Preeantha completed an Honours degree in Quantity Surveying, and then went to work in construction as a quantity surveyor. Preeantha says that the experience of being onsite was life changing; enabling her to learn in a fast-paced environment onsite while working with diverse people and this experience helped mould her as a professional. Transitioning from construction to consulting when joining WSP Preeantha believes has been the best career decision she’s ever made from a job satisfaction, learning and professional growth point of view. Preeantha is also a big advocate for women in STEM and remains impressed by WSP’s commitment to achieving a gender and equity balanced workforce. Our team had a brilliant time at the IFHE International Conference 2024, sharing their experiences and exchanging ideas with other professionals on the topics impacting healthcare engineering design – particularly decarbonization, digitalization and resilience. We were pleased to showcase our local and global capabilities at the conference. Well done to our presenters Kevin Cassidy, Iphendule Ndzipho and Jonathan Nistor for your thought leadership and practical insights into healthcare facility design and strategy. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing between clients, design and delivery teams will always be integral to success, and we were pleased to celebrate these partnerships at our client event as well as a special healthcare town hall for our staff, hosted by our team in Cape Town. Meet Ofentse Phiri, The Community Impact Changemaker 👋 Growing up in Burgersfort – a small mining town in Limpopo, South Africa - Ofentse Phiri, was inspired to enter engineering by the mining operations around him, and the desire to make an impact within his community. Pursuing a career in engineering enables Ofentse to make impactful changes in his immediate surroundings and try to better his community. And working with diverse teams on challenging multi-disciplinary projects at WSP has afforded him irreplaceable experience. His unwavering optimism and commitment can be attributed to his personal philosophy, as Ofentse believes that when you are faced with adversity, and overcome it, you develop an optimism and a drive to do more. This is a truth that Ofentse still lives by today in balancing his home and work life and further educational pursuits.
