Imagine 602,500 young dreams choked by smoke every year. That’s 24.1% of Zambia’s children, their lungs quietly harmed by secondhand smoke. Every cough, every struggle to breathe, is a reminder that we must act. The Tobacco Control Bill isn’t just a law, it’s a lifeline for our future. Let’s clear the air and protect our children’s tomorrow, today. #BreatheLife #TobaccoFreeZambia #ProtectOurKids #EnactTheTobaccoControlBill

A Presidential Visit: A Milestone for Tobacco Control Advocacy! When Republican President Hakainde Hichilema stopped by our stand at the National Youth Indaba, it was more than just a visit, it was a testament to the growing recognition of youth-led advocacy in shaping Zambia’s future. As part of the Y-ACT Youth In Action coalition in Zambia supported by Amref Health Africa in Zambia , the coalition proudly showcased our work in promoting public health and the urgent need for strong tobacco control measures. We commended the government for its continued efforts in ensuring the Tobacco Control Bill progresses through the legislative process, bringing us closer to a healthier, tobacco-free Zambia. We remain committed to working with policymakers and young advocates to safeguard the well-being of future generations. The journey continues, and together, we can build a healthier nation! The coalition members are Powering Young Initiatives , Tobacco Free Association of Zambia - Tofaza , Youth Arise Zambia - Kabwe , Lizu Community Network , Adolescent Health Centre, Scope Zambia, Mcover Solutions and AAAZ. #NationalYouthWeek2025 #TobaccoFreeZambia #Y-act

📢 Civil Society Advocates Demand Action on Tobacco Control Bill (TCB) 2025 in Lusaka Today, March 3, 2025, civil society organizations, including the Tobacco Control Consortium of Zambia and other health advocates, held a press briefing in Lusaka to address the ongoing misinformation being spread by the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) regarding the Tobacco Control Bill (TCB) 2025. As active participants in the fight for public health, we are speaking out against ZAM’s misleading claims that seek to stoke fear and confusion about the Bill. These tactics, aimed at protecting tobacco industry profits, are coming at the direct expense of Zambian lives. The facts are clear: Tobacco use results in over 7,000 deaths annually in Zambia, placing an enormous burden on our healthcare system and costing the economy an estimated K2.8 billion each year. The TCB 2025 is not about banning tobacco farming, but about regulating the accessibility of tobacco products to protect public health and promote sustainable livelihoods for affected communities. Stronger regulations are essential to combat the growing illicit tobacco trade and align Zambia with global health standards, as outlined by the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Today, we call on President Hakainde Hichilema to act with urgency and continue his support for the Tobacco Control Bill 2025. Zambian lives are at stake, and it’s time for decisive leadership to ensure this crucial legislation is passed to protect the health of our citizens. The time to act is now. We urge the President and all stakeholders to prioritize the health and well-being of Zambians over tobacco industry profits, and support a healthier, tobacco-free Zambia. Together, we can protect lives and build a brighter, healthier future for our nation. #TobaccoControl #TCB2025 #ZambiaHealth #SupportTCB2025 #PublicHealth #ProtectLives #Zambia #EndTobaccoHarm #LeadershipForHealth
