About us

About MTN Zambia MTN Zambia is part of the MTN Group a multi-national telecommunications company with a footprint in 22 countries in Africa and the Middle East. It started its operations in Zambia in 2005 after acquiring the then Telecel. It initially started as an exclusive GSM network providing voice and Short Message System (SMS) services. The portfolio has grown to include voice (local and international), data, fixed and wireless internet, money transfer and other value added services. The company is Zambia’s market leader with the largest market share providing communications solutions across all the 10 provinces of Zambia. MTN Zambia’s footprint is covered by 4G, 3G, Edge and 2G networks. MTN Zambia is the country’s fastest growing and most innovative network and is highly acclaimed for its quality network and dynamic tariff billing system. The company puts its customers at the forefront and uses its position on the market to uplift people’s lives and communities through a robust Corporate Social Investment programme in Education, Health, and preservation of the country’s cultural heritage through sponsorship of traditional ceremonies. MTN Zambia supports Zambia’s number one passion; soccer and is a proud sponsor of the national soccer team. The relationship with the local football association, FAZ started in 2010 and has seen the national team crowned 2012 African Champions at the continental showpiece – the Africa Cup of Nations. MTN Zambia is also proud sponsor of the premier league also known as the MTN Super League which has grown to become a competitive league watched by millions of African’s across the continent. At MTN Zambia we have continued to grow from being a generic telecommunications company known for basic telephony to a lifestyle-enabling, one-stop shop for solutions that support consumers through every moment and every stage of their life.

Sometime in September, I had the honour of representing our team - myself and two other colleagues -at the Banking Industry Symposium hosted by Stanbic Bank in collaboration with the Bankers Association of Zambia. This was on MD's request, an opportunity I am deeply grateful for. It was an insightful gathering of banking industry giants, it didn't feel like I belonged in the room but I was thrilled to be there and to learn. One thing particularly stood out to me at that Symposium as Mobile Money service providers were repeatedly mentioned in the discussions. There needed to be more similar gatherings and discussions tailored to Mobile Money service providers. These conversations needed to happen between financial industry players and regulators, dialogue that would lead to an appreciation of Mobile money operations and drive more suited regulation. After the event, I went back to office and mentioned this one key take away to my boss. She fully agreed with me but it seemed far fetched at that time, just a dream really. We had started planning the Customer Experience Cross Industry Panel Discussion, 2 months prior but didn't quite imagine just what could be achieved. Let me pause for a moment to say thank you to Chanda from Stanbic who graciously shared with me how she had put the event together. The insights were invaluable. Fast forward to Monday 21st October 2024 when we successfully hosted the Inaugural Customer Experience Cross Industry Panel Discussion where we saw MoMo from MTN ZM, Airtel Zambia PLC Zamtel Money and cGrate Zambia Ltd cGrate Zambia sat on the same table talking about issues common to us all. In the room were key stakeholders from the Bank of Zambia, Zicta and CCPC, who gladly accepted our invitation and gave ear to our plight. The dream had come true! I am still in awe of what our team was able to achieve on this day. I replayed the discussion, a powerful candid conversation in the presence of those who needed to hear it. I am deeply humbled and grateful to have been a part of this, as the lead planner and director of programs. I am so grateful to my boss Claudie Muchindu for trusting our team with putting this together and for creating an enabling environment for our growth. You blow the wind that our wings ride on. Thank you. Thank you Diana Nthere for carrying such a meaningful conversation, the things we talk about at our desks came to a bigger table and you did so well. I am also very grateful for the Cross functional teams that supported us through out. Thank you MD Komba Malukutila for rallying before and ahead of us. If there's anything I've learnt from this process, it's that life is about good relations and from good relations flow great results.

Yesterday was truly amazing! The pleasure and honor were mine to be part of a panel discussion on cybersecurity and customer service organized by MoMo from MTN ZM. An insightful discussion graced by Nader Farah, Nawa Joel .T S. and Taonga Chisamanga accorded everyone present with an opportunity to hear from key regulators in the industry. Worth noting was the fact that regulated entities can actually engage ZICTA to perform free vulnerability assessments prior to product launch! Nader Farah emphasized the need for organizations to be adequately prepared for the cyber security threats that may be introduced by 5G networks. It was a sobering discussion highlighting the undeniable truth that cyber security is everyone’s responsibility; all industry players should collaborate in order to deliver a pleasant and worthwhile customer experience. At organizational level, the panel delved into: =>The importance of Board and Senior management commitment in fostering a cyber security aware culture. =>The need for regular cyber security awareness training as first line protection against cyber threat. =>The criticality of tested and functioning business continuity measures should cyber threat materialize. Thank you MoMo from MTN ZM, MIKE NG'ANDU and Bwalya Chansa CISSP for putting together such a lovely event and getting everyone into one room, not as competitors, but as partners in the fight against cybercrime. A heartfelt thank you to Komba Malukutila for being present and leading from the front. #CyberSecurityAwareness

As we approach Independence Day and celebrating Zambia at 60, it’s essential to reflect on the values that this significant occasion embodies: freedom, unity, and the spirit of our nation. This year, our members staff have shown remarkable enthusiasm and dedication in celebrating this important day, fostering a sense of community and pride among us. MTN Zambia members of staff organized various activities including dressing up in their own unique interpretation of Zambia @ 60 and painted the office with some national pride and flair. From traditional to trendy – they went all out and had fun with it! Our staff collaborated to decorate our workspace with flags, banners, and traditional motifs, creating an inspiring atmosphere. The effort to transform our environment reflects our collective pride and commitment to honouring our country. In the spirit of independence, members of staff shared a traditional Zambian meal. The day culminated in a festive gathering where staff came together to celebrate. This event featured traditional food, music, and games, reinforcing our bonds and creating lasting memories.
