MOVEMENT OF THE COLD STORAGE BOX ACROSS ZAMBIA An abnormal load measuring 63 meters long, 5.7 meters wide, and 7.2 meters high is currently being transported across Zambia, with Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi as its final destination. Comprehensive risk assessments have been conducted, and the route has been carefully planned to mitigate risks related to road infrastructure and electrical installations, such as high-voltage overhead lines crossing roads, ensuring safe passage. This planning is crucial to minimize risks for both the transport team and the personnel isolating power lines, protecting them from potential electrical shocks. We advise everyone involved in the isolation activities to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and use the correct tools, keeping overhead line clearances in mind to perform their tasks safely. We are confident that the load will arrive at its destination safely and without incident. #Safetricity #ElectricalSafety #AbnormalLoadSafety

About us
Safetricity is an awareness initiative dedicated to promoting electrical safety, responsible energy consumption, and the adoption of renewable energy. Our mission is to reduce deaths and injuries caused by electricity in Zambian homes, public spaces and beyond. We aim to achieve this by collaborating with the government, the electrical industry, regulatory bodies, manufacturers, and retailers to improve safety regulations and standards. Additionally, we advocate for responsible energy use and renewable energy adoption, which are critical for sustainability and energy stability.

ZAMBIA TO START MANUFACTURING LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES As Zambia prepares to start the production of lithium-ion batteries, it is our sincere hope that the company in question establishes a recycling facility to prevent battery waste from ending up in landfills. Without deliberate efforts, the country could face significant battery-related waste challenges in the next decade. Additionally, rapid technological advancements mean that new, more efficient products enter the market annually, making it essential to manage outdated resources responsibly through recycling and reuse. #Safetricity

The ERB has approved the reduction in tariffs for 730,000 ZESCO customers which accounts for 56% of its customer base and includes small businesses and households. The remaining 44% of its customers will face higher tariffs depending on energy usage. It is important to note that a significant amount of power from high consumers is wasted due to inefficient appliances, equipment, and processes. Therefore, industries, commercial spaces, and households should urgently consider conducting energy audits to identify inefficiencies and promote more efficient energy consumption. To further mitigate the impact of these increases, consumers should also adopt smarter habits, including self load management, focusing on essential devices and switching off non essential ones. This can help manage usage and lead to cost savings and sustainable consumption. #Safetricity #EnergyEfficiency

MISLEADING SOLAR EQUIPMENT ADVERTS I've often noticed advertisements promoting solar systems with generic appliance lists, without considering the varying energy needs based on appliance size, efficiency, and user habits. This can lead to systems being either over- or undersized, with undersizing being more common, often resulting in customer dissatisfaction when the system cannot meet actual needs. To ensure that a solar system meets your energy requirements, it's essential for a qualified solar installer to conduct a proper Energy Needs Analysis. This involves calculating the specific power demands of the appliances you plan to use and factoring in your personal usage patterns. Without this, undersizing is likely, and the system may fail to perform as expected. Don't rely on generic adverts. Get it right with experts. #Safetricity

If you live in a lightning prone area, you might want to install a Lightning Protection System (LPS) with air terminals and proper grounding to safeguard your solar panels from lightning strikes. #Safetricity

Contrary to popular belief, solar panels actually perform less efficiently in extreme heat. While they thrive on sunlight, temperatures above 25°C can reduce their output by increasing resistance in the cells, which lowers efficiency. For best results, cooler, sunny days are ideal for maximum energy production! #SolarFacts #EnergyEfficiency #Safetricity

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), fire kills approximately 180,000 people every year and injures many more. It destroys jobs, property, and costs millions in insurance claims. Please take the necessary safety precautions to stay safe. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by fire in recent times. #Safetricity
