About us

World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God. Globally, World Vision International is currently reaching more than 100 million people in nearly 100 countries, serving all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. World Vision Zambia started its operations in 1981, and since its inception, has recorded significant growth and impact in its development initiatives. The organization started with three small community development projects in Mukushi. In 1995, World Vision Zambia started implementing the Area Development Program (ADP) approach. This involved detailed planning and documentation, larger geographical area coverage, availability of significant amounts of financial resources, longer project life spans, and the recruitment of qualified staff. World Vision Zambia’s focus is on children in communities. Our work is therefore towards improved literacy, nutrition, household resilience and livelihood - all supported by improved protection of the children. World Vision Zambia is also mindful of meeting the expectations of supporters.

As we build up to International Literacy Day, children in Isoka district, working with World Vision Zambia under the Luswepo/Suwila Cluster, are taking the lead in raising awareness about the importance of literacy. Through engaging radio discussions, they are sharing insights on how literacy empowers communities and transforms lives, especially for young learners. In these discussions, they are also highlighting the critical challenges posed by the ongoing drought, which has severely impacted education in the country. Their voices are a powerful reminder of the need to ensure that every child, regardless of circumstances, has access to quality education. #Literacy #Education #ChildParticipation

Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (#FAWEZA), in collaboration with Education Above All Foundation’s Educate A Child Programme and World Vision Zambia, recently trained the 37 #StayInSchoolCommittees (SISC) under the Empowering Vulnerable Children with Education Project in Namwala District. The training focused on #childrights, identifying factors to predict risk of school dropout and supporting #children that are at high risk and most at risk, including using the child-functioning module to identify children with #disabilities through the early warning system. This training equips the #SISCs with the skills to predict and mitigate risks, ensuring that every child, especially those at high risk or living with disabilities, has the support they need to stay in school. #EducateEveryChild #InclusiveEducation #Partnerships #EVEProject

Yesterday, Chibwika Chiefdom, the Zambian government, World Vision Zambia, and UNICEF Zambia held an Open Defecation Free (ODF) celebration for the 137 villages in Chibwika Chiefdom, Mwinilunga district, which have achieved ODF status. Speaking during the event, the Guest of Honour, Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Hon. Collins Nzovu, emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring proper sanitation for all citizens, both in urban and rural areas. “While today is a day of celebration, let us remember that our work is not yet complete. Sustaining our ODF status requires ongoing effort, vigilance, and education. We must continue to promote good hygiene practices, maintain our facilities, and educate future generations about the importance of sanitation,” said Hon. Nzovu. "Government will work and walk the entire journey with you." The event was graced by five other traditional leaders, including Senior Chief Nalubamba of the Tonga-speaking people of Namwala district, and the Area Member of Parliament, among others. #SanitationForAll #ODF #Water #Sanitation #Hygiene #WeAreWorldVisionZambia

World Vision Zambia, in collaboration with the African Union Commission’s Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development - Child Protection Unit, is hosting a three-day workshop in Lusaka. This workshop is important in integrating traditional and socially harmful practices into the African Union Gender Observatory (AUGO) agenda. World Vision Zambia is focused on developing a robust strategy to raise children's and youth's awareness of AUGO’s mission and role and ensure that their voices are heard in the fight against harmful practices. The workshop has brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Niger, Rwanda, Liberia, and Zambia. Our primary goal is to refine a strategy incorporating #EndingHarmfulPractices (EHP) indicators into AUGO’s framework. This integration will enhance our ability to monitor and address practices negatively impacting gender equality and children's rights across the continent. The event includes children from IMPACT+ clubs and young journalists under World Vision Zambia’s Area Programmes in these discussions, fostering a more inclusive approach. #GenderEquality #ChildProtection
