We’re pleased to be supporting the Inaugural Climate and Health Africa Conference (CHAC 2024), which opens today in Harare, Zimbabwe and continues until 31 October. The conference will run under the theme: Cultivating Resilience in Health: Towards Unified Strategies for Climate Adaption and Mitigation in Africa. Africa’s pivotal role in the global fight against climate change will take centre-stage at this Africa-focused conference, which will bring together over 400 delegates from 30 countries across Africa. As Africa faces a disproportionate burden of climate-sensitive diseases, CHAC 2024 offers a platform for African nations to present ground-breaking research and best practices, align strategies, share solutions, and build partnerships to create climate-resilient health systems. CHAC is hosted by the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health and Child Care and Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, in collaboration with The Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Research Zimbabwe (CeSHHAR Zimbabwe). On the second day of #CHAC2024, political leaders, policymakers and experts have discussed the urgent need to work together to tackle climate change and its health impacts in Africa. The landmark Climate and Health Africa Conference was formally opened by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who also addressed delegates. There were further speeches from health and environment ministers, as well as senior representatives from the World Health Organization, Wellcome Trust and Africa CDC. Later, a high-level ministerial meeting was hosted by World Health Organization African Region Region and CHAC’s Chair, Director – Climate, Environment and Health at CeSHHAR, Zimbabwe, Dr Fortunate Machingura, PhD. Here, senior health ministers, delegates and partners discussed strategies for integrating health priorities and global climate policies. The inaugural #CHAC2024 is hosted by The Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Research Zimbabwe (CeSHHAR Zimbabwe) Zimbabwe, a key partner of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, alongside the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health and Child Care and Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife.
