Welcome to the first edition of our quarterly newsletter. In this issue we take you through our operations and the community.

As per our  tradition, Sabi Star Mine religiously participates in the Presidential Declaration for the national Clean-up commemorations. This month, the mine picked litter at the employee accommodation camp. The clean-up campaign was led by the SHE Manager – Mr. Renias Zireva who addressed participants which included Sabi Star Mine employees and contractors.

In China, the month of June is observed as National Safety Month (NSM), an annual initiative to raise awareness and promote safety within workplaces. In observing the NSM, our general manager Mr Xu Hui said safety is the most important aspect to achieve peak results on production. 

Sights from the North Zone first aid competition 2024 edition held at Borrowdale Country Club

Super proud of our history-making team that participated in the North Zone First Aid competition for the first time. This years’ edition was hosted by Pan African Mining and Ever Rising Resources at Borrowdale Country Club. The prestigious annual event is organised by The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe to promote safety & first aid competence and ensuring emergency response are continually improved in the mining industry. 

Keeping our environs clean As per our tradition, we observed the National Clean-up Day (First Friday of every month) by picking litter at our Eastern Gate. The participants included Sabi employees, cleaning services contractor’s employees and haulage truck drivers. The clean-up campaign was led by the SHE department who addressed the participants before and after the clean-up exercise.

Keeping the youth occupied - We donated an assortment of 66 balls to a total of 11 schools this month. For the project, each school received 6 balls (2 soccer balls, 2 volleyballs and 2 netballs.) Through donations towards sport, Sabi Star Mine wants to keep the youth occupied to fight drug abuse which has become rampant amongst Zimbabwean youths. 

Celebrating safety and health – last month we joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Day for Safety and Health in Mutare. Marching and procession was conducted in the Mutare CBD. The event was organised by the National Social Security of Zimbabwe under the, ‘We are running out of time, ensuring safe and healthy workplace now in a changing climate’. As Sabi Star Mine, we recognise the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for its employees. The day is celebrated worldwide to promote the prevention of occupational accidents, injuries and ill health. 

Towards a cleaner and hygienic environment – This week we donated a total of 87 fabricated metal litter bins to nearby schools (17), clinics (4) and business centres (8). For the project, each station got 3 metal litter bins. Through the litter bins projects, we seek to play a crucial role in maintaining clean and hygienic environments.

To observe the National Clean-Up Day, set for the first Friday of every month, we picked up litter at our Thermal Power Station. A clean environment is our collective responsibility!
