🏗️ Emissions from the Building Sector Have Stopped Rising for the First Time Since 2020! A recent UN Environment Programme and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) report highlights that while emissions from buildings have stabilized, progress, however, still remains too slow to meet global climate goals. Key takeaways: ✔ Building sector emissions have plateaued, marking a critical moment in decarbonization efforts. ✔ The sector still accounts for 34% of global CO₂ emissions and 32% of energy use. ✔ Heavy reliance on carbon-intensive materials like cement and steel continues to drive emissions. ✔ Investment in energy efficiency needs to double from $270B to $522B by 2030. ✔ Over 50% of new construction in emerging economies lacks mandatory building codes. 💡 To meet net-zero goals, we need stronger policies, increased investments, and innovative circular construction practices. The latest Electricity 2025 report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts 14% annual growth in renewable energy generation across the Middle East from 2025 to 2027. This surge aligns with the region’s accelerated transition to clean energy and global decarbonization goals. 🔹 Renewable energy will meet nearly all additional electricity demand growth worldwide. 🔹 Solar and wind power are set to play a dominant role in this transformation. 🔹 Expanding grid reliability and integrating renewables with storage solutions will be crucial for long-term sustainability. 🚀 Regional Highlights: ✅ UAE: The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is targeting 5,000 MW by 2030, cementing its place among the world’s largest solar installations. ✅ Masdar aims to expand its solar and wind capacity to 100 GW by 2030, positioning itself as a global renewables leader. ✅ Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Green Hydrogen Project will integrate 3.9 GW of renewable energy, aiming to produce 600 tonnes of clean hydrogen daily by 2026.
