The second panel discussion I participated in the AIM Congress last week was about 'Unlocking sustainable potential: Exploring FDI's impact on food security, and the SDG attainment in agriculture.' part of #investment track. My fellow panelist were Alvaro Silva-Santisteban Ferraro Amanda Line, Marie-Christine Luijckx, CFA and very well moderated by Marianna B.. It was interesting to see how Mariana built this topic bottom up, with some ground level businesses working in #agrifood a consultant like me who advices businesses to build #sustainablebusinessmodels and prepare them for #sustainablefinance or #fdi and then public sector, foreign government approach. Not just us, but our audience enjoyed the discussion and showed great engagement, too. #Foodsecurity and #sustainablefood has been a topic of my personal interest for years. Given its impact on so many levels, including public health, direct impact on #climatechange through #soilhealth #biodiversity #foodwaste etc. Plus #equity and #justice topics like #farmers rights and potential of finding solutions on so many #SDGs like #zerohunger through proper food redistribution, indigenous foods and what not So, I took this opportunity to raise awareness by bringing out the interconnectivity of all these topics and demonstrating a big picture for the audience. By pointing out some current barriers in #fdi and where FDI could bring the biggest positive impacts. Of course, I touched upon some of my consulting examples like how I set up #sustainablesupplychains for my clients or how we worked on their #esgpreparedness and #sustainability alignments before funding rounds. But most importantly, businesses in the #food and #agricultural sector need to build their purpose around the #wellness of people and the planet if they aspire to attract #fdi and want to flourish in the long run. This industry is inherently dependent on both #natural and #human capitals. #foriegndirectinvestment #equaitableworld #foodindustry #impactinvesting #foodtech #agritech
