The Japan Austria Science Exchange Center (JASEC) coordinates the scientific cooperation between all faculties of TU Wien and Japanese partner institutions. In addition to fostering the mobility of researchers and teaching staff JASEC also supports students of both countries in the framework of university partnerships. The difference in language, mentality and curricula are sometimes barriers for an active exchange. However, the long-lasting and very successful cooperation of the TU Wien with Japanese partner institutions provides evidence that these barriers can be overcome. Since the first agreement with the University of Tokyo was signed in 1981, TU Wien has continuously expanded its network to a total of 14 Japanese partner institutions.

We want to invite intereseted students and colleagues to Prof. Otsuki's lecture on "History of Modern Japanese Collective Housing and the Need to Learn from the Succession of Collective Housing in Europe" which takes place on Nov. 27, 20224 at 19:00pm at the Festsaal in the main building at Technische Universität Wien, Karlsplatz 13. This event is related to the conference "20th Century Housing Heritage in Europe: Conserving, Participating, and Adapting". The conference focusses on housing concepts and built settlements of the 20th century, which often explicitly addressed hygienical, ecological, communal, and social issues and necessities. We ask how these heritage values can be conserved for the sake of sustainable futures. Forms of use, social interaction, and participation might contribute to the care and careful adaptation of such sites, but also create conflicts. Various actors—from business, politics, conservation, and civil society—define, appropriate, and manage this housing heritage and need to be involved. The conference also examines housing and climate policies, development pressure, and vacancy as powerful contexts. https://lnkd.in/dj2S2g4s #tuwien #todai #universityoftokyo #architecture

Takeru Shibayama from the Research Unit Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering (Forschungsbereich für Verkehrsplanung und Verkehrstechnik) at Technische Universität Wien and Kiyohito Utsunomiya (Kansai University) have recently published a new book on state-of-the-art sustainable urban mobility developments both in Europe and Japan. In Europe, cities of all sizes are transforming urban spaces and expanding mobility options to enhance sustainability and improve quality of life. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), initially published in 2013 and updated in 2019 by the EU, serves as a framework for these initiatives. The book begins by exploring the latest advancements in sustainable urban mobility across Europe and Japan. It then revisits the concept of sustainability in the context of transport and mobility, summarizing the key principles of SUMP. Additionally, it addresses current challenges and potential improvements in Japanese transport policy, proposing strategies for a sustainable future in Japan. Exciting Workshop for Shibaura Institute of Technology Students at TU Wien! From Sept. 29 to Oct. 8, 2024, TU Wien’s Research Unit of Regional Planning and Development had the pleasure of hosting a workshop for students from Shibaura Institute of Technology. A huge thank you to Sibylla Zech, Petra Hirschler and Hartmut Dumke for creating such a warm and welcoming environment for our guests from Japan! We were thrilled to collaborate with our long-standing partner, Prof. Shunji Suzuki, and Prof. Kazuya Yamazaki, who accompanied a group of passionate SIT students. Together with Technische Universität Wien students, they analyzed potential development areas in Vienna, working on innovative land-use solutions. JASEC was happy to support this workshop by hosting the farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant in Vienna’s city centre. #tuwien #SIT #UrbanPlanning #InternationalCollaboration #CulturalExchange #JASEC #Vienna #Japan #futurefit

🌐 All OE Emergency Exercise 80/40m & QO-100 Recap! 🚨📡 On May 1st, 2024, the TU Wien Amateur Radio Club participated in this year's All Austrian Emergency Exercise (AOEE). This exciting event included both shortwave radio contests on the 80m and 40m bands, as well as communication via the QO-100 satellite. 🛰️🎙️ Our team—Thomas Rief (OE1TRI), Michael Kubalek (OE3MQK), Georg (OE1RIG), Gerald (OE1GAQ), Dieter (OE1KDK), and Chris (OE1VMC)—demonstrated the importance of reliable communication when it matters most. In line with TU Wien’s motto, “Technology for people,” we proudly contribute our expertise to support emergency communication when conventional systems fail. JASES is proud to have Tom as a Coordinator at Technische Universität Wien for the Japan Exchange Program as well as the Disaster Competence Network Austria at TU Wien. He is also a volunteer in the City of Vienna’s Crisis Management and deputy head of the Vienna Emergency Communications Team and of course member of the Amateur Radio Club of TU Wien. #AOEE2024 #EmergencyComms #HamRadio #TUWien #futurefit #AmateurRadio #CrisisManagement
