Episode 29 of the #UrbanLunchTalk series has been released! Dive into the full webinar on the JPI Urban Europe YouTube channel 👇 https://lnkd.in/eu7TTR3p This episode shed light on the core elements of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and how it is implemented in Europe and China, focused on the importance of getting the areas within walking distance to train stations and transport nodes in cities right to realise bold visions of cities becoming less dependent on cars. The discussion took a starting point in findings from three projects funded in the ERA-NET Cofund Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) in the JPI Urban Europe program.   #ENUAC #urbanplanning #tod #15mincity #mobility

At the heart of the EX-TRA project is the concept of the “post-car city,” a city where accessibility is primarily provided by proximity, walking, cycling, or wheelchair use, and where there are ample alternative mobility options that reduce the need for car ownership and use. “We focus on street experiments, which explore different uses, forms, and regulations for city streets on a temporary basis to learn about the possibilities, but also the challenges that a transition to what we call a post-car city are,” Luca Bertolini, the project coordinator, explains. Read more about the project and learn about the tools but also how this experimental approach is reshaping our understanding of urban transportation and public space and aiding cities in maximising the potential of their streets and neighbourhoods. In an era of rapid technological advancement, the CATAPULT project has taken a proactive approach to ensure that the benefits of automated mobility services are accessible to all. The project has uncovered valuable insights that could shape the future of inclusive transportation by focusing on the needs of under-researched groups, including senior citizens, children, and people with cognitive or physical impairments. Learn more about the project and its findings, in our interview with Nora Spiegel, one of the project’s coordinators and a representative of one of the Austrian partners, Austria Tech 👉 https://lnkd.in/dRFJm55p CATAPULT is one of 15 projects in the ERA-NET Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) call 1, within the JPI Urban Europe programme. #ENUAC #UrbanMobility

At its core, the JPI Urban Europe project EASIER aims to understand how we can shift people from private cars to more sustainable and active modes of transportation by studying the entire door-to-door journey. One of the key findings was that urban surroundings significantly influence perceived safety, mode choice, and public transport ridership. E.g., the project found that having houses, apartments, and workplaces closer to stations increases public transport usage more than placing parking lots near the stations. We had the opportunity to speak with Otto Anker Nielsen and Evelien van der Hurk, the project’s coordinators, who tells us more about the project and its results and outcomes. “Geofencing is a combination of technologies, primarily using GNSS (e.g., GPS) to create virtual location-based fences. When a recipient approaches a geofenced area, it triggers a specific action, such as providing information, warnings, or restrictions,” says Rodrigue Al Fahel, project coordinator of the GeoSence project. We talked to Rodrigue to learn more about how geofencing is transforming the way cities navigate the complexities of modern transportation. For example, he outlines five key steps for geofencing to work effectively. Read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dU-VY8KE GeoSence is one of 15 projects in the ERA-NET Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) call 1, within the JPI Urban Europe programme. The overall objective of the project is to design, trial and evaluate geofencing concepts and solutions for specific cases in cities, within the project and from other previous/ongoing geofencing initiatives, and to propose new ways of successfully deploying geofencing technologies. #ENUAC #UrbanMobility

“Sleeping assets” can be brought to life and be used as assets in the sustainable logistics infrastructure! We met with Susanne Wrighton, one of the Awaking Sleeping Assets (ASAP) project’s coordinators, who tells us how the ASAP project is revitalising existing "sleeping assets," that is underutilised resources, across four European cities - Hamburg, Paris, Stockholm, and Vienna. From forgotten waterways and abandoned buildings to public vehicles idling between routes, Susanne describes an urban landscape teeming with opportunities waiting to be uncovered and refashioned into assets for overcoming logistical hurdles in the way of a more sustainable future. Read more about the project from our results interview: https://lnkd.in/dQb3bVxs ASAP is a JPI Urban Europe project in the ERA-NET Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) programme. The project started in 2021 and ends in 2024. #ENUAC #UrbanMobility
