🎉 Oslo kommune (Klimaetaten i Oslo kommune) has launched practical guidelines for zero-emission construction sites! Oslo requires all municipal construction and infrastructure projects to be 100% emission-free, within their #PilotCities Activity, 'PURE: Power Up a REnewable Society', the city has produced guidelines that will support the industry in its energy transition and aims to complement existing contractor procedures and knowledge. ✅ The guidelines will help contractors: - Calculate power requirements for construction machinery and equipment - Optimise the charging infrastructure for machinery - Improve energy efficiency, including the use of alternative energy sources Organised into six clear sections, they mirror the project planning phases, making them incredibly user-friendly! This is a significant step in Oslo's journey to climate neutrality and offers a valuable resource for contractors as they transition to decarbonised construction, demonstrating that electric construction machinery has proven to be both efficient and quiet! 👏 Oslo is igniting the path for emission-free construction, inspiring us all along the way! 🏙️ This week the Youth Policy Dialogue on the Future of Cities took place in Warsaw hosted by Ekaterina Zaharieva, EU Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation. A group of students aged 16 to 30 engaged with the Commissioner on their visions for urban transformation and their role in driving change, exploring how the EU can support more sustainable, innovative, and inclusive cities that meet the needs of future generations 🌍 Key themes of the Dialogue were: - Environment and sustainability: creating resilient cities - Technology and innovation: the role of digital solutions and smart infrastructure - Inclusion and accessibility: how to create thriving and inclusive cities A report from the European Commission will be published on the outcomes of the Youth Policy Dialogue, stay tuned! ✨ City leaders gathered for another Cities Mission Mayors Advisory Group meeting today! After their first meeting together in Brussels in October, Mayors and City Leaders came together to discuss agreed priorities from increasing direct EU-to-city funding and improving directionality of existing funding mechanisms to addressing mismatches between national and city-level emission goals and empowering engagement of the private sector and citizens. ✅ The Mayors Advisory Group added priorities on working with the EU to:   1) target national government to become promoters of the ambitions  2) create scale and possibilities for the private sector to step in with financing  3) highlight the climate transition as part of the security agenda The Group engaged with Nicola De Michelis, Deputy Director, DG REGIO on both a short and medium-term lens on action, focusing on the potential of a shift from a sectoral governance of funding instruments to an integrated approach, just as the Cities Mission has facilitated this reality for cities through the Climate City Contract process.
