A call for smart implementation of EU sustainability rules over disruptive U-turns! With Europe’s sustainability transition at a crossroads, over 90 organisations representing civil society, business, banks and investor interests, have joined forces to publicly respond to the recent announcement from President von der Leyen regarding the EU sustainability reporting rules and an Omnibus proposal. At a moment when European leaders are seeking to boost competitiveness and attract major financing to support companies’ sustainability transition, the statement shared with EU and national policy-makers emphasises:  The role of the EU sustainability legal framework as a catalyst for economic transformation Companies’ need for legal certainty over short-sighted political reactions The importance of promoting a pragmatic implementation that prevents over-compliance approaches The risk-based nature and built-in flexibility of the EU standards  The need to protect the EU market and level the playing field globally We strongly encourage policymakers to focus on supporting a smart and easy implementation of EU sustainability reporting standards, instead of playing ping-pong with the legal framework. Today is 💪 #InternationHumanRightsDay 💪! Sadly, this is not really a day to celebrate facing all the countless #HumanRightsViolations worldwide. Nevertheless, today serves as a reminder of the vital importance of safeguarding #HumanRights in all areas, including #Tourism. For the #RoundtableHumanRightsInTourism, this is of the highest importance every day of the year. 🌟 In this connection, we are happy to announce a new collaborative project! As the largest #MultiStakeholderInitiative in the industry, the #RoundtableHumanRightsInTourism, is spearheading the "Tourism Impact Assessment South Africa". ✨ It focuses on assessing #HumanRightsRisks in #TravelProducts and is aligned with the principles of the #GermanSupplyChainAct. 🌟 The impact assessment concentrates on a #TourismSupplyChain of mid-range group tourism products in the crucial South African tourism hubs #CapeTown, #Johannesburg, and the #GreaterKruger areas. ✨ The project is anchored in the commitment of dedicated core project partners which are Brot für die Welt - #TourismWatch, DERTOUR Group, Studiosus Reisen München and Kneissl Touristik. Together with the Roundtable's own coordination office, these key players lead the preparations and on-site assessment. Local facilitation is provided by Fair Trade Tourism. 🌟 The on-site assessment will take place from January 19–29, 2025. The results will then be analysed and presented at #ITB from March 4–6, 2025. ✨ The findings will be translated into practical recommendations for tourism businesses.
