Strengthening Mars Simulation Ties with the University of Arizona's SAM Team! 🇺🇸🇦🇹 We had the pleasure of hosting a five-member delegation from the University of Arizona, led by Kai Staats, at the Austrian Space Forum in Innsbruck. Known for their high-fidelity, pressurized SAM Mars simulation facility at Biosphere 2, the team brings forward-thinking innovations, including pressurized spacesuits that add additional realism for planetary analog missions. It was an inspiring two-day visit filled with technical discussions, mutual learning, and visions of future collaboration. 🤩 Our team showcased the Aouda spacesuit simulator and Vertical Treadmill (VTF), with valuable contributions from our experts, including Benjamin Reimeier (VTF) and Marcus Ake (ÖWF Education). Moreover, junior researcher Juliana Rössler from HTL Anichstraße (technical high school) presented her team’s HTL diploma project on virtual Dignity control. Partnerships like these show how international teamwork can shape the future of planetary exploration. 🚀 Hera Begins Its Journey to a Binary Asteroid! On October 7th, the Hera mission launched from Florida, and its scientific instruments are currently being tested to prepare for the satellite’s deep space journey starting in late October. 🛰️ Hera is heading to the asteroid system Didymos, the target of NASA’s DART mission 💥, which successfully altered the orbit of its moonlet, Dimorphos. Hera will study the aftermath, measuring the crater size, analyzing the momentum transfer, and investigating how effectively DART’s impact changed the orbit. These insights will answer many of the new questions scientists have and help refine our planetary defense strategies. 📷 Hera's first images: Asteroid Framing Camera, HyperScout H (c) ESA Learn more about Hera's instruments ➡️https://lnkd.in/ekEi-B7e #ScienceSunday #PlanetaryDefense #DART #Hera
