What can a city council do if a busy bridge needs urgent replacement or renovation? Where can they direct the vehicular & pedestrian traffic during the construction phase? The solution is to install a temporary modular bridge quick to deliver and easy to build on site.   Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems supplies such bridge systems all over the world. Recently a modular structure was delivered to the city of Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic so that the traffic could be diverted during reconstruction of one of the city bridges.   The temporary bridge supplied by Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems is a Bailey-type panel bridge spanning the Elbe River at an impressive 171 meters. It features three spans, the longest reaching 67 meters. It took just one day to launch the bridge into final position using temporary supports on floating barges. The bridge is scheduled to be in operation for two years. Another unique feature of this bridge is its wooden deck. Stunning improvement of the original Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems flyover ramp, developed many years ago. The Swiss road authority ASTRA is currently using its movable flyover ramp on the national highway A1 to keep traffic flowing while executing necessary maintenance works on the infrastructure below. The system in use is inspired by the working principles of the Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems "bridge on the bridge", called flyover. Congratulations on this impressive movable flyover ramp! A temporary pedestrian and bicycle bridge with a movable bascule leaf was built by Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems in the Kuchelau harbour close to Vienna in 2020 for our client the Magistrate of City of Vienna. It was built to provide an alternative route for bicycle and pedestrian traffic during ongoing construction works at a nearby road bridge. The Kuchelau Harbour Bridge consists of two panel bridges (standard design) as side spans (each with a nominal length of 30.48m and a width of 3.15m) and a bespoke bascule bridge between these side spans. All M&E for the movable bridge was also designed by Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems.   The EUROVELO 6 cycle path runs across the bridge to the Eastern spur of the Kuchelau harbour basin in the North-West of Vienna. For larger boats and emergency vehicles, the possibility of crossing the cycle path is provided by a movable bridge span.   After 4 years in service, the bridge was just recently successfully dismantled by a crane on a floating barge from the river Danube. Great teamwork from our installation crew reduced the necessary time on site to an absolute minimum. As the bridge is still in perfect condition thanks to its hot dip galvanized anti-corrosion surface treatment, the material will soon be used at another site of ours, always with a view to sustainability, one of the advantages of Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems modular bridge solutions.   Also, the environment on site will not be affected as the Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems panel bridge system only requires small substructures to support the bridge which will now be gently dismantled to let nature take place again. One of our site advisors has just returned from a site near the town of Cochrane in the Aysén region in Chile where our client, Constructora Conpax, has successfully dismantled a 39.6m Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems Bailey Type bridge. The bridge provided access and remained in service for 2 years and was subsequently removed using a cantilever de-launch methodology. The bridge removal operation completed in 50 working hours using a crew of 7 men and a small backhoe digger provided by the client. Our advisor attended site during the whole operation to provide technical advice and support to the client, making sure the bridge removal was done in accordance to the specifications provided by Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems.   Once the bridge has been dismantled and checked, it will be handed over to the local office of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), so they can use it as required in the region. A 27m single lane Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems panel (bailey) bridge has been recently installed in the city of Troyes (France) to serve as a temporary detour bridge to carry light cars & vehicles over a railway line. The bridge features parapets for vehicular protection and a cantilever walkway to segregate pedestrian traffic from vehicles and will be in service for a minimum of 8 months.   The Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems panel (bailey) bridges are perfectly designed to optimize installation and reduce the assembly and erection time on site. This is visible when the equipment is used by experienced companies like our Exclusive French Partner Nicolas Faure, who has decades of panel bridges deployment experience, and had a good preparation to deliver and install the bridge in record time. The bespoke rental bridge in France was successfully assembled & installed in only one day, using a team of only 4 people and small equipment.   With hundreds of lineal meters of bridge stock in our warehouse in Austria, we are ready to serve the European rental market at very short notice working either directly or through our local partners.
