AFDO is a Disabled Peoples Organisation (DPO) - the national voice representing people with disability.
About us
The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) is a Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO). We are a cross-disability representative organisation, and the national voice representing people with disability in Australia. Our members are national and state disability advocacy organisations run by and for people with disability and their families, representing Australians with disability. To achieve our mission and vision, AFDO provides policy advice and representation to government and organisations on matters that impact on the lives of people with disability. AFDO also works to inform and educate the general community about disability, and we work to develop a community where people with disability can participate in all aspects of social, economic, political and cultural life. This includes genuine participation in mainstream community life, the development of respectful and valued relationships, social and economic participation, and the opportunity to contribute as valued citizens. Our vision is to achieve a community where people with disability can participate in all aspects of social, economic, political and cultural life.

AFDO welcomes the Taskforce's call for a risk-proportionate approach to provider registration. By tailoring registration and auditing requirements based on the level of risk associated with different supports, we can better protect participants while reducing unnecessary burdens on low-risk providers. This balanced approach will enhance the quality of services across the NDIS. Read the full report here: https://buff.ly/3ZdGJk0 #NDISReforms #RiskManagement #AFDO

AFDO supports the Taskforce's recommendation to redesign complaints processes, making them a core obligation for all NDIS providers. This change is essential to ensure that all participants can raise concerns and receive timely responses, fostering accountability and trust in the system. Strong complaints and compliance systems are vital for upholding the rights of people with disability. Read the full report here: https://buff.ly/3yjT6jr #NDISReforms #ParticipantRights #AFDO

🔧 Supporting Providers to Innovate "There are concerns that mandatory registration could…limit or stifle innovation and different models of supports NDIS participants and their families are exploring and using effectively" (NDIS Taskforce Advice Report, p. 13). Providers need support to innovate and remain viable while delivering quality services. #NDIS #Innovation #AFDO

💬 Ongoing Consultation is Key! “The Taskforce proposes that not all providers as defined in the NDIS Act should be registered. But to determine the best way to achieve that and avoid unintended consequences requires further consideration, including consultation with the disability community and sector" (NDIS Taskforce Advice, p. 5). Ongoing consultation is essential to ensure a balanced approach. #NDIS #Consultation #AFDO
