What a great turn out it was for the October meeting of AHSCA (Vic). Our sponsor spotlight was on STIEBEL ELTRON Australia. The VBA's Principal Plumbing Engineer (Anwar Gayed) and Deputy State Building Surveyor (Jo van Loon) explained to us the sometimes messy intersection of building and plumbing works, the overlapping requirements and how to avoid disputes and delays. Our expert panel included Clayton Owen from Fire Rescue Victoria. The Master Plumber's (Vic) President; Norm Anderson updated those present on some of the issues around gas supply, electric change over and the consumer costs. Jesse Thorgersen provided an update on the Gas Code, providing members with a high level overview. Thanks to all those that attended to make it a memorable night. Take Note: Our next meeting is 11 December 2024 which will be our combined Industry Awards / Christmas Party. We have some very special guests joining us including the Commissioner & CEO of the VBA Anna Cronin and comedian Dave Hughes to give us many laughs. The AHSCA Research Foundation is running Stage 1 Roof Drainage Course for members. Positions are extremely limited, so please contract your local Chapter to avoid disappointment.

In our October meeting we will hear from the VBA about the various certification documents that may be required by Building Surveyors, what is reasonable and what is not. Which practitioners are able to provide the various certifications or compliance certificates? This is an area of wide spread confusion and debate so come along with your questions and examples. We will also have representatives from Fire Rescue Victoria to answer any questions you may have about the role of FRV in the dispensation and certification process. Updates will be provided on the issues with AS 2419.1 and the recent intervention of the VBA in response to wide spread industry concerns. How do such anomalies occur, where is the regulatory impact assessments, what type of industry consultation was undertaken and what is the ABCB's role in ensuring regulatory transparency?
