AIDR develops, maintains and shares knowledge and learning to support a disaster resilient Australia.
About us
The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) is the National Institute for disaster risk reduction and resilience. We collaborate across sectors to strengthen the resilience of Australian communities to disasters. AIDR creates, grows, and supports a range of networks; provides opportunities for learning, development, and innovation; shares knowledge and resources to enable informed decision making and action; and facilitates thought leadership through national conversations. AIDR contributes to a more disaster resilient Australia through four key influencing strategies that encapsulate AIDR’s work: -Actively supporting, growing and sustaining a range of networks across sectors and jurisdictions. -Enabling those with a role in disaster risk reduction and resilience to come together to learn, develop and innovate. -Collecting, developing, curating and sharing knowledge to educate and promote good practice in disaster risk reduction and resilience. -Providing a central focus point for national thought leadership on disaster risk reduction and resilience. AIDR is a consortium managed by AFAC on behalf of the Australian Government's National Emergency Management Agency. AIDR delivers a range of products and services to support a disaster resilient Australia.

This video provides an overview of the Disability Inclusive Emergency Management (DIEM) Toolkit that was launched on 3 December 2024 - International Day of Persons with Disability. Watch the full launch and engage with the toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/g_mu_8nH Watch the short overview to find out the good things about this toolkit! https://lnkd.in/gXeH7z-3 National Emergency Management Agency Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience University of Sydney @Centre for Disability Research and Policy The DIEM Toolkit including Principles and Practice Standards was endorsed by the National Emergency Management Ministers Meeting (NEMMM) on 15 November 2024. NEMMM agreed for the Toolkit and its components to be used nationally, for consistency across Australia in the development of inclusive emergency management plans and practices. DIEM implementation aligns with NEMMM priorities 3 and 5 in preparing communities to be more resilient to the impact of disasters and building future capabilities for prevention, preparedness, response and recovery with people at the centre. It will support governments to deliver on the Health and Wellbeing Policy Priority 4 under Australia’s Disability Strategy (2021 - 2031) and implementation of recommendation 5.4 of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (the Disability Royal Commission) to review national agreements, strategies and plans that affect people with disability, including those related to emergency management. image: link to video which is also captioned.
