Honouring the Legacy of John Bradley 🥀 The Ainslie Football and Social Club (AF&SC) mourns the passing of John Bradley, a respected leader, mentor, and friend, who dedicated nearly three decades of service to the club. At 81 years of age, John leaves behind a lasting legacy marked by dedication, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of AF&SC and its members. His expertise in the building industry was instrumental in major projects, including the $5.5 million expansion of Wakefield Avenue (1991-1993), the construction of Gungahlin Lakes Community and Golf Club, and improvements to Canberra City Bowling Club. John also played a key role in facility maintenance, ensuring the club's continued growth and modernisation. Beyond infrastructure, John contributed to governance decisions, including constitutional updates, property acquisitions, and compliance with evolving gaming and liquor laws. His commitment to AF&SC’s success was evident through his participation in industry events and his advocacy for member interests. A long-time Ainslie resident, he was a beloved presence at club gatherings, including AFC Past Players and Veterans’ lunches, and shared camaraderie with the “table of knowledge” group. John’s enduring impact on AF&SC is best summed up by Malcolm Scholes, who praised his invaluable contributions to board decisions, investments, and club culture. His dedication, leadership, and friendship will be deeply missed, but his legacy remains in the foundations he helped build. Rest in peace, John—you will not be forgotten.

We recently celebrated the 105th birthday of one of our dearest and most valued members at Ainslie Football & Social Club, Merle Hare. With a skip in her step and always a smile, her presence brings joy with every visit to the venue and to our staff who adore her. Every day she visits we are astounded at her incredible ability to take on life with strength and prosperity, seeming never a day older with each day. She is truly a remarkable person, and we are honoured to have her as a member with us for so long. We often ask Merle what the elixir of a long life is, she often answers with "to live a full life and stay active" which undoubtedly, she has mastered both. We extend our greatest of birthdays to you Merle and hope you enjoy your flowers from us. See you on your next visit in! 💐❤️ #ainsliefootballclub #canberralocals #ainslie #Canberra
