Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in a #money2020asia panel discussion on The Path to Profitability for Digital Banks alongside some incredible industry leaders. Led by Malcolm Macnaughtan, the panel included Jessica Lam from WeLab Bank, Nick Woodruff from Trust Bank Singapore, and myself, representing Alex.Bank. It was inspiring to share ideas with fellow professionals who share the same passion for #digitalbanking and #fintech. Thank you to #money2020 for the opportunity to engage in such an insightful discussion. #alexbank

Happy INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8)! For the final part in our #AlexWomen profile series, we spoke to Alex.Bank board member Kathy Ostin who shared some of her incredible experiences as a woman in leadership and gave us her take on #IWD2024. Enjoy her short Q&A below! ... *Kathy Ostin, what's your favourite thing about being on the Board of Alex.Bank?* 👉 Alex.Bank is at the forefront of digital banking - creating a frictionless customer experience in banking is leading edge. This is the way banking should be experienced by everyone. **What does International Women's Day mean to you?** 👉 For me, IWD is about how far women have come in the corporate environment and in society, and yet how much work there is still do to in this area. Reflecting on the changes in workplaces and in the community since I embarked on my career 30 years ago, huge steps forward have been made to achieve gender equality. I want to see this continue and would like to close out my career in the knowledge that my daughters will not have the same challenges, whether that’s at work or in the home. *What advice would you give to women aspiring to pursue leadership roles?* 👉 Push ahead, have confidence in your abilities and go for it. Women have a tendency to suffer from “imposter syndrome” more than men do and it holds them back as they second guess themselves. There are many incredible women in leadership roles that are an inspiration - from the well known to those in your own environments. Reach out and talk to a woman you admire for any tips, advice, mentoring, assistance. So many women are willing to help others into these roles. We need diverse leadership styles to make the work environment more inclusive.  **How do you balance your professional and personal life, and what strategies do you use to prioritise self-care?** 👉 This has always been a balancing act for me, particularly after having kids. I wanted to do it all, and have learnt with time that it is crucial to prioritise health and wellbeing over some aspects of my life. I exercise almost every morning (sometimes kid priorities don’t let me achieve this!) - exercise clears my head and sets me up well for each day. I also enjoy socialising - with family, friends and work colleagues - which provides connectedness. I now also prioritise getting enough sleep every night and not burning the candle at both ends. **What opportunities do you hope to see for women entering banking/finance in the future?** 👉 I absolutely want to see equality in the opportunities offered to women entering banking/finance in the future - relating to ongoing culture shifts, elimination of the gender pay gap, flexible work arrangements, and sponsorship of women through the organisation/industry, to name a few. It’s important to have a work environment in banking/finance that retains and promotes women. I want to see more women in leadership roles, C-suite roles and on boards.

For part three of our #AlexWomen profile series ahead of INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8) tomorrow, we sat down with one of our incredible Loan Assessors Ari Lkhagvasuren to chat to her about what #IWD2024 means to her and her work here at Alex.Bank. Enjoy her short Q&A below. ... **What's your favourite thing about working at Alex.Bank?** 👉 There are so many things to love! Being part of a digital bank that's innovating the traditional banking process is really exciting to me. As a Loan Assessor, I love the speed and efficiency of our digital assessment processes. I was previously an assessor in a traditional bank in Mongolia, and the difference with our process is huge. It's so satisfying to see how quickly we can provide outcomes for our customers here at Alex.Bank. **What does International Women's Day mean to you?** 👉 It holds a lot of meaning for me, especially considering it's a national public holiday in Mongolia, where I'm from. From a young age, I've seen it as a special day to honour and celebrate women. I have many fond memories of my dad making the women in my family a special breakfast to mark the occasion every year. It's a day to recognise and appreciate the contributions and influence of women in society. **What's the most unexpected thing you've learned since starting your career?** 👉 Before entering the workforce, when I was a student, I had the impression that each day would follow a similar routine and process. However, I quickly discovered that every day is a new day, that learning never stops and that being able to multi-task is a vital skill. As a loan assessor, my role involves much more than just assessing loans – it’s about truly understanding the environment that I operate within and understanding our customers. **If you could swap jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?** 👉 Hmm… that’s an interesting question. I'd love to try my hand at being a full-stack developer and have a role in designing our technology, creating product enhancements and problem-solving for customer needs. I’m always excited about what our developers bring to the table and I think it would be a lot of fun to try my hand at it for a day!

This week we are celebrating some of the amazing #AlexWomen, with INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8) coming up this Friday. Enjoy our Q&A below with our amazing General Counsel & Company Secretary Amita L. to get her take on #iwd2024 . ... **Amita L., what's your favourite thing about working at Alex.Bank?** 👉 One of the things I love most about working at Alex.Bank is that no day is the same. I like that we are a small and intimate team and that when needed everyone pitches in to make things happen quickly. It's incredibly empowering to see how we all come together to make things happen – focused on the task at hand with very little ego.  **What does International Women's Day mean to you?** 👉 I feel that it’s important to highlight the changing dynamics and roles of women in society and how we’ve progressed over time. To take a moment and recognise the impact of having a female voice at the table – and embrace celebrating this as a collective, whilst also bringing awareness to areas we still have work to do in. In my experience a woman's job never ends – at home and in her career, we’re always juggling many hats and finding the right balancing act is important. **How do you balance your professional and personal life, and what strategies do you use to prioritise self-care?** 👉 I have personally gotten better at setting the boundaries I need with experience. Earlier in my career I was always so quick to jump at everything in order to prove myself. But with experience, I have worked out how to prioritise to be efficient both at work and in my personal life. It’s important to be supporting colleagues – but equally, it’s important to prioritise yourself, so that you have the space to be yourself at both work and home. As far as self-care – I love to eat good food, ensure I get my exercise in, and take regular holidays. **What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?** 👉 Most answers are usually yes or no – so shoot your shot. If you don’t ask you don’t get!

With INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8) coming up this Friday, Alex.Bank is celebrating some of our amazing #AlexWomen this week. First up we sat down with our incredible Chief Growth Officer Sascha Hunt to get her take on #IWD2024 - enjoy her Q&A below! ** Sascha Hunt, what's your favourite thing about working at Alex.Bank?** 👉 We are creating something new, Australia’s newest digital bank. We are a small team, but a team who are all directly involved in designing, building, and implementing market-leading products and services for our customers and partners.   **What does International Women's Day mean to you?** 👉 For me, International Women's Day is a day to stop, take time out of our busy schedules and reflect on all the women in my life, both professionally and personally. I have been fortunate throughout my life to be surrounded by incredible women, some of whom I have known for over 35 years. It is also a moment to acknowledge some of the incredible work women are doing in our communities, businesses and society. There are so many amazing women leading a range of initiatives often behind the scenes and IWD shines a light on some of them. **What's the most unexpected thing you've learned since starting your career?** 👉 That learning never stops, you have to embrace the learning opportunities as they are what will continue to challenge you. **How do you balance your professional and personal life, and what strategies do you use to prioritise self-care?** 👉 Health and wellbeing are incredibly important to me and I make them a priority in my life. I go to the gym most mornings and maintain a healthy diet whenever possible. To give my best at work, I need to be feeling my best and that comes from looking after myself. I do love my food and wine and sharing those times with family, friends and colleagues is also important. **What inspired you to pursue a career in banking/finance?** 👉 I have been very lucky to have worked across several industries and I have enjoyed them all, however, financial services does dominate. It’s the people who make the industry for me. I have worked with some incredibly bright and driven men and women while in financial services and it is their energy that has inspired me. Many of these colleagues have become close friends. **What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?** 👉 There’s always a way if you want it.
