I'm Batman... I live in the shadows... JUSTICE. FOR GOTHAM. 👹🦇 It's bat week. Although we don't get to see these fluffy guys all the time, they're integral to the health of our ecosystems. TO THE BAT-FACT-MOBILE 🚘: 🦇 Bats use echolocation: emitting high-frequency sounds that bounce off objects, helping them locate prey. 🦇 They produce various calls which researchers can use to identify different species (sometimes easier than imagery!) 🦇 Urban noise can interfere with their echolocation and impact their hunting success and communication. Check out our latest ALA Labs #researchimpact highlight! We've condensed the paper for you for a lighter read. 📚 Norman & Mackey (2024) have created free online habitat connectivity maps using data within the ALA. These maps contain "best connectivity paths" between patches for a selection of forest dwelling species across Australia. 🗺️📊 📚 Summary: http://spr.ly/6043qQ4j3 🗺️ Maps: http://spr.ly/6046qQ4ju 📃 Paper (open access): http://spr.ly/6048qQ4jr

As a repository, we gather data from many sources. But it can be messy — inevitably, not all datasets look the same. 📊 When using ALA data, how do I… 🔎 Filter records that are missing the information I need for my research? 🤨 Locate and remove suspicious records? Check out our new data cleaning book on ALA Labs to make it all much shrimpler! 🦐 http://spr.ly/6048qKWMu
