Life-Changing Expedition travel to the polar regions and other wild & remote places.

About us

From the start, Aurora Expeditions was destined to be different. Co-founders Greg and Margaret Mortimer had a passion for adventure, exploring wild places and sharing the experience with friends and in 1991, Aurora Expeditions, named in honour of Sir Douglas Mawson’s ship, was born. Their aim was simple – to take small groups of travellers on voyages of discovery to inspiring regions, thereby creating lifelong ambassadors for the preservation and protection of these sacred places. More than three decades later, that pioneering spirit burns just as brightly, as does our preference for small-group, personal expeditions. Less people means more solitude and greater flexibility if tides, currents, ice or weather dictate a schedule change. And because we have fewer people to ferry ashore, we often make more landings. We make the most of our size advantage to create intimate expeditions varying in length from 8 to 30 days. Simply choose the region you’d like to explore, the amount of time you’ve got and what activities you enjoy. Focus on one destination or combine back-to-back trips for the ‘Ultimate Adventure’. You’ll be accompanied by an Expedition Team that we believe are the world’s best. Remote area specialists, their onboard lectures entertain and expand your knowledge. We are proud to be a Certified B Corporation™️, with an ongoing commitment to protect the world’s wild places and become the global leader in sustainable expedition travel. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning for another thrilling adventure, our original goals remain unchanged. Explore wild places that stir the soul, create ambassadors for the planet, offer personal attention on unforgettable expeditions and welcome new friends into the Aurora Expeditions’ family.

Last week, our UK team hosted a partner ship visit in Aberdeen for agents to explore our purpose-built ship, the Greg Mortimer. Over 35 agents had the unique opportunity to tour the ship and get an insider view at what makes the Greg Mortimer so special. A big thank you to everyone who joined us in Aberdeen, it was fantastic to share this experience with you. The Greg Mortimer has just finished exploring Scotland for our Wild Scotland voyage and is on the way to continue its Arctic summer season in Svalbard, Greenland, the Northwest Passage, and beyond. #AuroraExpeditions #GregMortimer #ArcticExpedition

Our purpose-built expedition ship, the Greg Mortimer, made a special stop in Troon, Scotland yesterday for a partner ship visit. This ship visit provided a unique opportunity for our partners to explore the ship and get a sneak peek at some of the exciting modifications onboard before it sets off on its first Arctic expedition of the season on June 6th. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us in Troon. We hope you enjoyed the experience and the chance to see what makes the Greg Mortimer so remarkable. #AuroraExpeditions #GregMortimer #ArcticExpedition

Today on International Mount Everest Day, we commemorate the first successful ascent of the highest point on Earth on 29 May, 1953, while honouring our founder, Greg Mortimer, whose indomitable spirit of adventure laid the foundation for Aurora Expeditions over 33 years ago. In 1984, Greg became one of the first two Australians to summit Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen, a feat that earned him the Order of Australia and three Australian Geographic Society Medals for his contributions to mountaineering. Today, Greg continues to lead expeditions and share his passion for exploration with our guests. Join him on our upcoming Arctic Complete voyage and experience his spirit of adventure firsthand: https://bit.ly/3K6ZZqu 📸 Michael Baynes  #InternationalMountEverestDay #Mountaineering #GregMortimer #AuroraExpeditions #FoundersVoyage #ArcticComplete
