This Arctic Sea Ice Day, we invite you to join us on a pivotal climate expedition, seeking to lobby for the protection of this extraordinary region. The "Bears, Ice, Glaciers, Arctic Climate Expedition 2025" (BIG ACE) will begin on 23 June 2025, travelling to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Svalbard. In partnership with Dr Sylvia Earle and Ocean Geographic, the epic project honours Dr Earle’s lifelong advocacy for the world’s oceans by inviting changemaker passengers to use their own voice and talents to instigate meaningful conversations and spur action to safeguard the planet for future generations. You are invited to be part of the action, to join and be a voice for change: https://bit.ly/4bFGG2R 📸 Scott Portelli #BIGACE2025 #ArcticSeaIceDay #SustainableFuture

Innovative Climate Action 🌍 A method used for creating ice-skating rinks is now being tested to combat melting sea ice in the Arctic. With summer Arctic sea ice shrinking by 13% per decade since 1979, this initiative, featured by WSJ in Svalbard, aims to create more ice as a potential solution to climate change. #ClimateChange #Innovation #Sustainability #Arctic #Environment #NewTech https://lnkd.in/dExd5mCW

An ocean is a large body of salt water that occupies a significant part of the Earth's surface. There are five main oceans: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern and Arctic Ocean. Oceans play a key role in the climate system of the planet and are the source of diverse marine life. Like this 👌

🌊 World Oceans Day: Dive into Action! 🌊 Did you know Oceans cover over 70% of our planet and produce more than 50% of the world's oxygen? 🐋 From the smallest plankton to the largest whales, our oceans are teeming with life and mystery. Oceans regulate the Earth's climate and weather patterns. Coral reefs, often called the "rainforests of the sea," support approximately 25% of all marine species. The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world's oceans, plunging nearly 36,000 feet below the surface! 🐠

Humanity's survival is still within our grasp, but it requires #urgent, #radical action. Sir David King, Chair of the Climate Crisis Advisory Group, emphasises the #critical steps we must take: #reduce #emissions, #remove #greenhousegases, #repair #ecosystems, and build #resilience — the four Rs that can save us. The Arctic Circle is #heating up four times #faster than the #global average, and #sea #ice #loss in #Greenland and #Antarctica is #accelerating. In 2023, we saw unprecedented #wildfires and catastrophic #floods. #Innovative projects like creating bright #whitecloud cover over the #Arctic Sea and thickening polar ice show promise but require substantial #funding and #global #cooperation. Beyond #policy and #investment, we need a cultural shift towards valuing #ecological well-being as #integral to #human #wellbeing. "We often hear that in response to the climate crisis, we need to make sacrifices. But this framing is flawed. We must find joy in nurturing what is around us, from nature to the things we own. Fulfilment should come from quality, not quantity, and from nature, not new things." Read the opinion piece here: https://lnkd.in/enC5jXDJ

Not only is the artic warming at an alarming rate, but so is Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula, jutting from the northern part of Antarctica. Since 1950, the Antarctic Peninsula has warmed almost 3°C (5.4°F), which is five times faster than the global average.

10,000 nautical miles over 10 years - measuring, benchmarking, monitoring, reporting on exactly what is happening to our oceans in areas that are seldom if at all sampled. Areas which for over 70 years have been accepted as the indicator regions of our planet - CRITICAL scientific data collected and portrayed in near real time - at a CRUCIAL time. Without this how do we know that anything we are doing in terms of mitigating climate change is actually working? Our CEO, Explorer, Jim McNeill, explains "I'm someone who likes to do my homework properly and in September last year I led our Foundation Expedition in preparation for our Resolute Expeditions. It was all about finding out how to use the SV Linden for 10 years of scientific exploration." Do you want to be part of this crucial historic endeavour - following in the foot steps of early explorers but on a modern-day critical mission for climate change?
