AAA has tested on 70 vehicles has found 52 consume up to 32 per cent more fuel in real-world conditions than their manufacturers found in mandated lab tests. Are cars over-promising on fuel use and emissions? New AAA Real-World tests show information given to consumers from mandatory laboratory tests don’t always reflect life in the real world. Of the twelve cars tested in the latest round, results showed they consumed various results of fuel consumption being between -8% to 32% difference than lab results. We are glad to announce the Australian Automobile Association's Real-World Testing program has gained global recognition by being named the winner of the Federation Internationale de I'Automobile Region II's annual Innovation award. The program tests fuel consumption and emissions of vehicles in Australian road conditions, as distinct from lab testing used by car manufacturers. FIA said the program was providing users with “unprecedented information enabling them to make more informed choices, save money and better protect the planet’’ realworld.org.au

The index examines all cost of transport including fuel, insurance, car loans car maintenance and public transport. Due to cost of living, Adelaide families are doing it tough. According to the AAA’s Transport Affordability Index, a typical Adelaide family spends $23,739 a year on transport – up $461 in the three months to June 30 compared the previous quarter. Although a typical Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, and Perth family spends more on their total cost of transport, Adelaide had the biggest increase among other capital cities.
