Congratulations, Jennifer Morrison, on your incredible 51-year career at RAC ⭐ Jen’s journey with RAC began in 1974 at just 16 years old, starting with the humble task of filing ‘change of address’ slips for insurance policies—before computers were invented. Over the years, she has worked in various roles, from typist to call centre operator, and in 2005, she joined the member-facing team at our Carousel Shopping Centre branch. Throughout her career, Jen has seen countless changes, yet her positive attitude, sense of humour, and unwavering passion for helping members have remained constants. Jen’s impact goes beyond her day-to-day work. Early in her career, she was recognised for her sustainability initiative to replace polystyrene cups with mugs in the cafeteria. She has made many lifelong friendships at work, including forming "The Golden Girls" group with her close colleagues, who still holiday together each year. Jen's dedication to our members is evident in the way she touched so many lives. Many members visited her at work regularly and even celebrated birthdays and life events with her. One member, in particular, sent her an annual Christmas card from Melbourne. Jen, thank you for your decades of exceptional service, for supporting our members, and for helping to make WA a better place. Happy retirement Jen 💛

Young people working together to create safer streets and connected communities 💡🌱 Across multiple creative workshops and build days, over 35 young leaders envisaged and transformed Kalamunda’s main street. They built permanent seating, bike parking and planter boxes. To help direct people to cross Haynes Street safely, they also painted a 60m long footpath mural, designed by a young local artist. This project demonstrates what can be achieved when young leaders step up to reimagine and revitalise their local street and public spaces. A huge thank you to everyone involved including the City of Kalamunda and Youth Action Kalamunda. Are you passionate about creating safer streets and more welcoming community spaces? RAC hosted over 1,300 South West students at RAC Project Road Smart over the past two days. Held at Bunbury Entertainment Centre, students learnt the consequences of risky driving and the effect it has on themselves and the community. RAC Project Road Smart is a free road safety event for year 10 to 12 students, run by RAC with support from WA Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Services and St John WA. Students from 14 schools had the chance to hear the road safety story of guest speaker, Rob Pike, followed by a lesson on resilience from Happiness Co. and an interactive session with emergency services.

Does your trip to work feel longer than a year ago? Respondents to a new RAC survey say an extra seven minutes has been added to their daily one-way commute, with Perth’s rapid population growth considered a major factor. Congestion impacts our health and wellbeing. It’s also a big handbrake on the WA economy. Investment in new rail lines, smart freeways and cheaper public transport are great examples of congestion-busting action. However governments must keep looking at ways to make it easier for commuters to skip the drive, and choose to walk, ride or catch public transport instead.
