AIG is a not for profit professional institute representing geoscientists in industry, government and research
About us
The Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) is a dynamic professional institute for geoscientists in all sectors of industry, government, education and research throughout Australia. Members work in a diverse range of fields, from exploration and mining geology for minerals, energy resources and construction materials, geological investigations for construction projects, geological mapping, environmental protection remediation of contaminated land, water resource management, soil science, natural hazard management and teaching. The Institute has more than 3,000 members both in Australia and overseas. AIG members are committed to maintaining and continuously improving their professional standards and capabilities. AIG members are bound by a strong and enforceable Code of Ethics, backed by a procedurally fair complaints and standards system. The Institute's Registered Professional Geoscientist (RPGeo) programme provides members with independent verification of their personal professional development activities. AIG is one of three parent bodies of the Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) which sets standards for reporting exploration results, mineral resource and ore reserves estimates by companies in Australia and New Zealand and is a model for comparable codes globally. Members have access to a dedicated Edumine campus, which provides a wide range of on-line, self-paced training courses. Technical talks, seminars and conferences are organised by AIG's state branches regularly throughout Australia which double as excellent networking opportunities. The AIG Education Foundation provides companies and individuals with a means for contributing to AIG's geoscience education initiatives which extend from support for the Teacher Earth Science Education Program (TESEP) and Earth Sciences Western Australia (ESWA), to the AIG Student Bursary program for talented students at Australian universities.
