  • *Innovation in Action!* It was great to have the Shell UK Structural Team at our Aberdeen office to talk all things AUAV and explore how we're introducing advanced technology into existing inspection programs. Working with Sonomatic RAIS, we are transforming how we approach asset integrity, enhancing safety and efficiency, and unlocking new inspection capabilities. It was a pleasure showcasing the work we’re doing and giving the team a hands-on experience—hope you all enjoyed getting behind the controls of some of our UAVs! Looking forward to continuing this journey of innovation and collaboration!

  • That’s a wrap on EXA 2025! A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand, engaged in great discussions, and explored the cutting-edge solutions we showcased. The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry leaders, share insights, and highlight how we’re driving innovation in the sector. A special mention to all who joined us for our gin event—it was a great afternoon of networking, and it’s safe to say the drinks went down just as smoothly as the conversations! We look forward to continuing these discussions beyond the expo. If you didn’t get a chance to catch up with us, feel free to reach out—we’d love to connect. Until next time, EXA!

  • AUAV have again been successful in being audited against BARS. Amazing you say, what the heck is BARS?? The Basic Aviation Risk Standard RPAS refers to a set of guidelines and requirements developed by the BARS program to ensure the safety, operational integrity, and risk management of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), aka drones. The BARS program is primarily focused on setting safety standards for aviation operations, and the RPAS standard is part of expanding these safety protocols to cover drones. The critical part is that a bunch of big companies require their suppliers to be BARS compliant before they can go to site (looking at you Rio Tinto and BHP!). BARS RPAS involves an audit in the following key areas: 1.     Safety Management System (SMS): It includes practices for managing and mitigating safety risks in RPAS operations, ensuring that operators identify, assess, and reduce potential hazards. 2.     Operational Procedures: This involves detailed protocols for safe operation, flight planning, and management of RPAS during its operation, including how to handle emergencies and unusual situations. 3.     Personnel Qualifications: The standard also focuses on the qualification and training of personnel involved in RPAS operations, ensuring they meet specific competency standards. 4.     Maintenance and Equipment Standards: It outlines requirements for maintaining RPAS equipment to ensure it is airworthy and safe for operation. This can include regular inspections, maintenance schedules, and performance monitoring. 5.     Regulatory Compliance: Ensures that RPAS operators comply with applicable local, national, and international regulations related to unmanned aircraft systems. Essentially, an external auditor comes through and looks at everything we do, all our processes and records and they say, yep, you are doing it right, go forth and keep flying safely. A bit like the ISO audits (which we also get to do, yay!) but for drones. Check out www.auav.com.au for more information on what we do.

  • Barry and Sean, from Aberdeen and Houston respectively, fly a drone in Australia. Any ideas why this might be useful? (aside from watching a beautiful sunrise).

  • AUAV UK has spent the week testing the DJI Matrice 4T in winter conditions in the Scottish mountains, assessing key onshore infrastructure. With support from a major oil & gas operator, we also trialed the drone at a Gas Plant, inspecting critical assets. Its thermal imaging, 56x zoom, 55-minute flight time, and AI automation delivered game-changing results. A huge thank you to Coptrz for the opportunity to put it through its paces. #DroneTech #Innovation #Inspections
