Aveo is featured in the latest issue of DARE Magazine, with Australian legend Dr. Karl on the cover! Bridgid Allsopp, Aveo’s Head of Marketing and Communications joined other industry leaders as part of a special report to discuss retirement living and the wide range of options available for retirees in Australia.   In the article, Bridgid shared, “The uncertainty of moving to a village is understandable if you’ve never experienced community living before. A lot of people make the call, ‘it’s not for me’ without actually understanding what ‘it’ is. In my experience, almost everyone who moves in will say, ‘I wish I’d done it sooner’. Aveo resident, Willie Eaton also shared this sentiment, “I do wish I’d come here earlier; I came here in my early 70’s and I’m 77 now. Being here frees you from all the chores; you don’t want that in your 70’s. I love it when I wake up in the morning and I hear the lawnmowers going and I think, ‘I’m glad it’s not me!" The Aveo Open Home season is well underway and recently, Sunset Palms Retirement Living in Palmview held an Open Home event for the books! The community opened their doors to some brand-new Stage 3 villas and the residents hosted a bocce game, offering a glimpse into life in the community. The community was packed, everyone was treated to mouthwatering pasta, woodfired pizza, grazing boards and coffee, plus great entertainment! Well done to the Sunset Palms team and residents on such a successful event, we might just have to road trip to the Sunny Coast and join you for the next one! Move with Ease is an Aveo initiative that empowers residents in Aveo communities to downsize within the Aveo portfolio. Meet Audrey, resident at Mountain View Retirement Living in Murwillumbah who said that moving from her villa into an apartment with services was the best decision that she has made. Audrey said, “It was great that I could just change over to a smaller apartment and that if I needed any more help, I could have meals and housekeeping done for me”. Through Move with Ease, residents might choose to move for the ease of living in a smaller home, to relocate closer to loved ones, or to be closer to community amenities and services as support needs change. We're so glad that Audrey is happy in her new home within the same community she loves, and very grateful that Audrey was willing to share her story. In the latest edition of Aveo’s Chapter Magazine, the Chapter team sat down with Kyle Larkin, the talented Chef Manager at Kingston Green Retirement Living to hear about his kitchen philosophies. Kyle has worked in some of Melbourne's finest restaurants alongside international chefs, and for the last three years, he has been creating delicious meals for residents at Kingston Green. Kyle tailors his culinary creations to the preferences of Kingston Green residents and loves to use food to help residents reminisce about good food and good times. Derwent Waters Retirement Living in Claremont just celebrated the grand reopening of their beautifully renovated Club Rooms! This social hub, with stunning views of the Derwent River, now boasts a modern function room, bar, lounge, gym, and more. Long-time resident May Backhouse was invited to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Having moved into Derwent Waters in 1988, and after 36 years, May is the longest-residing resident of any Aveo community! May shared some wonderful words about Derwent Waters, she said “After so many years it really is where I consider ‘home’. I know all my neighbours and the staff have become my friends too. They are always at the end of the phone 24/7 and I have security and friendship." May has been looking forward to the official unveiling of the new space where she loves to “exercise, play cards and Mahjong and gossip’’. The award ceremony for the CIO50 2024 Awards took place last week, and we are thrilled to share that Aveo’s Chief Information Officer, Warren Havemann placed 12th in the Top 50 CIOs in Australia for 2024! We wanted to share another story about residents at Aveo who do incredible things! Lee Tredinnick, resident at The Manors of Mosman in Sydney was recently honoured with the prestigious Jean Arnot Award at the Parliament of NSW, recognising her incredible contributions to the community. The Award celebrates women in their 90th year or older and their outstanding commitment and service to their community, and we think that Lee is the perfect recipient for such an accolade! Throughout her life, Lee has continuously volunteered with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney International Piano Competition and the Sydney Youth Orchestra, as well as the Art Gallery of NSW and even Taronga Zoo. Lee is a National Council of Women (NCW) member in NSW and has served on the NCW-NSW Executive. Lee’s tireless efforts were also previously recognised with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM)! Her volunteer work is deeply influenced by examples set by her grandfather and father, who both volunteered well into their later years. Lee says, "Their examples have inspired me to contribute to society as a natural thing to do. I feel I've been on a journey to learn about growing older since I was born." When asked about her favourite memories from volunteering, she recalls a profound question posed by a little boy after an hour of touring artworks at the Art Gallery of NSW. He asked, "Lee, are you a grownup?" Lee said, "I'm still not sure of the answer to that, but I do know - NEVER STOP LEARNING!" Congratulations Lee, you are a wonderful inspiration. Construction of an exciting new chapter at Fountain Court Retirement Living in Burwood is well underway, and we wish we could move in! This project features 17 beautifully appointed, two- and two-bedroom plus study apartments within an already established building at Fountain Court, plus a completely renovated and expanded community centre with a café, media room, lounge, bar, and dining areas, and a new multi-purpose activity green!
