AWS is the sole agent for the 3M™ Speedglas™ brand in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).
About us
AWS was established in 1994 and has played a key role in the welding industry ever since. As an advocate for welders’ safety in Australia and New Zealand, AWS has published numerous Welding Safety White Papers, Welding Industry Reports, and Welding Fume Control Frameworks. AWS is a company that specialises in welding safety equipment, and it is our goal to raise awareness on the important issues that welders face. As the sole agent for the 3M™ Speedglas™ range of welding helmets with integrated respiratory protection, the Nederman and Bomaksan range of portable local exhaust ventilation fume protection systems, the Translas on-gun welding fume extraction range, the range of Guide welding gloves, and a 3M personal protective equipment wholesaler, AWS are extremely well placed to help businesses understand the different types of product controls that can be introduced into the workplace to better protect welders and those who work in close proximity to welders. AWS can assist and support workplaces navigate and understand every level of the hierarchy of control and understand their responsibilities as an employer of welders, relevant to eye, face, head, hearing, hand, and respiratory protection. For more information on welding fume monitoring, welding PPE, or welding fume LEV extraction options, please contact AWS.

NEW Australian Study – Protecting the Welder from Ozone The main objective of this study was to understand the levels of ozone that an unprotected welder may be exposed to across a variety of common welding processes and whether a Welding Helmet with a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) was an effective control in protecting the welder from exposure to ozone. BREAKING: NEW Welding Fume Workplace Exposure Standard There is officially a lower Workplace Exposure Standard for Welding Fume in Australia! In September 2023, SafeWork Australia voted to lower the Workplace Exposure Standard for Welding Fume from 5mg/m3 to 1mg/m3. In January 2024, Work Health and Safety Ministers endorsed the decision to change legislation in Australia. All workplaces must now comply with the new lower limit by law. This new limit applies to welders and anyone who works around welders. If you are a welder, work with welders, know a welder, or employ welders, it’s important that you educate yourself on what has changed and what can be done to reduce exposure to welding fume. Find out more about the change here: https://lnkd.in/g_9T6PAS
