Did you know that 💥 residual stress 💥 is a major reason why weld repairs of cracking often re-crack after a short time? Here's why. 💡 🔹 Weld metal shrinks as it cools. 🔹 Cracks are often in heavy rigid structures that create high restraint. 🔹 The result is very high tensile residual stresses in the repair weld. 🔹 These tensile residual stresses amplify service stresses and reduce fatigue life, plus acting to "tear open" small defects and create an initial crack. There is a simple solution to this problem. Inter-run Peening. Inter-run peening (when done properly) removes the shrinkage that causes residual stresses and/or distortion. A Weld-Hit is affordable enough and simple enough to use and maintain that it can be in every maintenance welders tool kit so that they can get awesome repair outcomes. Total crack repair management from inspection to weld repair. Made for mines. Made easy.
About us
We are passionate about leading a change in how the mining industry handles weld repairs. The mining industry has been struggling for too long with substandard repairs, resulting in ongoing cracking issues, snowballing repair costs for aging equipment, and reduced viable service life. We believe that the objective of a weld repair should be to restore, or even improve, the original fatigue life of the cracked component. We founded WQMS because we passionately believe that the industry should have better quality weld repairs. Our aim is to empower the mining industry so that they can expect more out of their weld repairs, and have certainty that repairs are done right. Our goal is to provide an expert system that seamlessly integrates into existing workflows and supports existing roles, which supplies the technical welding information as well as provides a framework for the weld repair management process. Our expert system is a customised and simplified cloud based tool for the mining industry to manage weld repairs of heavy equipment. Simply enter in the relevant equipment and data for each crack, and the system will provide the repair procedure, repair methodology, and ITP (Inspection and Test Plan). Furthermore, with our unique welder competency assessment, we can ensure that the welder has the skill and ability to properly carry out the repair.

Are you manufacturing or repairing critical structural assets and need to do Weld Toe Burr Grinding as per the "IIW Recommendations for Improving the Fatigue Strength of Welded Joints"? If so, you should have a procedure for how to do it. The reality is that weld toe burr grinding isn't as simple as it sounds, and the guidance in the IIW document can be difficult, if not impossible, to successfully apply. WQMS have written a comprehensive yet practical procedure for Weld Toe Burr Grinding. It is written to be easily understood and applied by all stakeholders - Engineers, Supervisors, and Tradesmen. This procedure is written based on practical experience, not just theoretical concepts so you can start using it straight away and get the required results. You can purchase a copy of the "Weld Toe Burr Grinding Procedure for Fatigue Life Extension" directly from our website. The power and importance of inspections and NDT data is underrated. It is the foundation of risk management and maintenance. The first step is to detect cracking. For HME (Heavy Mobile Equipment) this typically is a 90% visual inspection basis by looking for visible cracking, followed by MPI/ET to confirm, and UT for specialised inspections of pins/shafts and cracking from internal features. AINDT qualifications are typically mandated for NDT techs, but these are for individual test methods/processes. So why isn't there training for techs to visually identify and interpret fatigue cracking? The second step is to report and record the cracking. Nature and location are essential. But NDT reporting is stuck in the dark ages. Why is it that only crack length is reported? The simple answer is because traditional NDT reporting harks back to fabrication welding defects. It was never intended for inspections for fatigue cracking in HME. Better, more informative data is needed for risk management, scoping, planning and repair management. Location type, crack type, length, depth, material thickness are essential to know. If this makes sense to you too, then we can help. The Crack Data System (CDS) nomenclature is specifically designed for structural cracking inspections. It is simple yet powerful and provides the essential data needed by all stakeholders. It's been tried, tested and refined at some of Australia's biggest mine sites. It unlocks the ability to create standardised condition severity thresholds for TARP's, better planning and scoping, and easy welder competency management. Crack Data System is the master key for structural asset management. The CDS is open sourced to support industry as a new benchmark for inspection data reporting. WQMS provide cost effective online training for NDT techs for visual inspection of HME, Fatigue cracking identification and interpretation, and how to correctly apply the CDS nomenclature when reporting. WQMS also provide support for streamlined site implementation. #NDT #inspection #mining #maintenance #HME #crackrepairs #MEM #fatiguecracking #reliability

Congratulations to James Kannapinn, Josh Murphy, satish kumar and Peter Stubbs from WesTrac Cat -Mt Thorley branch, on being the first in the World to hold the MEM05069 Advanced Weld Repair and Maintenance unit of competency completed at Muswellbrook TAFE. They were also eligible and completed a Level 3 MWC competency, made possible by the strong alignment between the MEM05069 unit and the "Weld Australia award-winning" Maintenance Welder Competency micro-credential developed by WQMS. This significant achievement reflects their dedication to their studies and skills, as well as the support of their TAFE NSW teacher, Steven Hall, and their employer, WesTrac Cat. We are excited to see how they will use their new qualifications to make a positive impact in their roles and within the wider maintenance industry. #WesTrac #MWC #MaintenanceWelding #MWUP #MaintenanceWeldingUpskilling #MuswellbrookTAFE #ProfessionalDevelopment #SkilledTrades #WorldFirst #CertIVAdvancedWeldRepairandMaintenance #Mining #RepairWelding

Did you know that the benefits of peening are HUGE? ✅ Control Distortion ✅ Minimise Residual Stresses ✅ Maximise Fatigue Life Inter-run peening to minimise residual stresses is ESSENTIAL for any crack repairs. Otherwise the residual stresses induced by the repair welding will cause re-cracking to develop in a very short period no matter how good the weld is. HFMI (High Frequency Mechanical Impact) weld toe peening is scientifically proven and internationally recognised as the best way to maximise fatigue life of critical plant and structures. All the big equipment manufacturers use it, and it is used on bridges and cranes all over the world. There is even an IIW publication titled "IIW Recommendations for the HFMI Treatment for improving the fatigue strength of welded joints. Specialised tooling is required for inter-run and HFMI weld toe peening. There are many brands such as PITec, HiFit, Sonatest, UIT etc. Honestly, it doesn't matter what you use to do it - they all can deliver the same results. If you want peening equipment with more advanced features for quality control and ease of use for long periods, then we recommend PITEC Deutschland GmbH. But if you want a simple, robust and affordable solution that a welder can have in their tool kit, then choose Weld-Hit. It's the perfect tool for routine maintenance welding of crack repairs. Solidus Inspection and Quality Management Services (SIQ) shared some great photos of their Weld-Hit being used for inter-run #peening to prevent distortion and residual stresses. Inter-run peening is essential for repairs of fatigue cracking of heavy structures. Inter-run peening counteracts the weld metal shrinkage, neutralising the residual stresses that would otherwise form and dramatically reduce the fatigue life of the repair. Weld-Hit is a pneumatic #HFMI (High Frequency Mechanical Impact) tool used for inter-run peening and HFMI weld toe peening. WQMS supplies Weld-Hit kits with customised impact bit sets for fabrication and maintenance welding. See our website for all enquiries https://lnkd.in/eBxBN2ED
