Each month we hold a CEO update for all our staff to keep them engaged in ‘all things at Baptcare’. Yesterday was a special event that acknowledged all we’ve achieved as an organisation this year, which at the heart of it is a celebration of our people. Our CEO Geraldine Lannon thanked her executive team and everyone at Baptcare for their contributions and dedication to deliver a meaningful difference to our customers. From opening three new retirement living communities, to delivering more than 550,000 hours of care for over 6000 In Home Care consumers and providing ongoing community services for children, youth and families in need - just to name a few of the many impressive achievements shared yesterday. “Thank you for enhancing your missional impact across every part of our business. In the past year, we’ve delivered quality across all parts of our services and been recognised and awarded for our achievements. I thank every staff member and volunteer for your significant contribution to these achievements,” said Geraldine.

Check out our Tasmanian NDIS Team in action at the recent Disability Expo in Hobart. They spent the day meeting with attendees to answer questions about the NDIS and engaging with young and old through games like corn hole, sensory rice play and balloon dog making. It’s all a part of promoting conversations about how the NDIS works, building strong relationships and supporting the communities we work in. Thank you to Speak Out Advocacy for facilitating this annual event, which saw 67 exhibitors and more than 1,000 attendees participate. Ships-ahoy! Remember John, our ship building master craftsman? He recently completed his third model ship – the ‘Cutty Sark’. This ship has taken John two and a half years to complete – but it’s all a labour of love. He’s already started work on his next project – the ‘Kate Cory’. It’s amazing work that leaves all at Baptcare’s Heritage Manor Residential Aged Care community in awe. “John showed me how every single plank needs to be individually cut and glued to the ship,” said Kate Jeremiah, Lifestyle Coordinator. “We are in awe of his talent and attention to detail.” Thanks John for these marvellous models! We can’t wait to share pictures of the ‘Kate Cory’ when she sails into harbour. At Baptcare, we understand that living well looks different to everyone. Whatever you love to do – whatever makes your day and makes life meaningful – we’re here to make it happen. Children’s Week highlights with our Early Childhood Team! Our dedicated Early Childhood Coordinators Tania, Wei, Gina, Claire and Natasha, along with Community Project Manager Jess, celebrated this year’s theme, ‘Children have the right to a clean and safe environment’, by visiting Glen Huon Primary School for some fun activities! What did we do? • Made seeding pods with shredded paper. • Read ‘Saving Our Planet’, a flip book about green themes aimed at pre-schoolers. • Handed out goodie bags with a trowel, water bottle, seed pod instructions and NDIS early childhood factsheets. As you can see from the pictures, it was a fantastic day filled with fun and learning for both parents and children. This event was delivered as part of Playgroup Tasmania’s Children’s Week activities, all made possible through Glen Huon Primary School’s ‘Launch into Learning’ program. Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful day possible, especially our brilliant little helpers and their families who participated in the recycled seed pod making. #ChildrensWeek #EarlyChildhood #Community

So wonderful to work with you, Marta Woolford, PhD and Darshini Ayton, on this important project. Baptcare’s research partnerships—like everything else we do —is about building and supporting communities where every person is valued and respected. We look forward to seeing this work presented at the Australian Association of Gerontology conference in Tasmania.
Research Fellow, Health and Social Care Unit, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University
I am delighted to share my recent publication titled: 'Intersection between person-centred practice and Montessori for dementia and ageing in residential aged care' published in Age and Ageing journal. Darshini Ayton and I are grateful to have worked with Baptcare, including Nilu Morawaka and Silvia Alberti on this important project. Identifying an intersection between Montessori for dementia and ageing and PCC has important implications for practice in RAC to use Montessori as a vehicle to improve practice and the quality of life outcomes of residents. The research will be presented at the upcoming Australian Association of Gerontology conference in Tasmania. https://lnkd.in/ef5QTQYE

Great to see what home care packages can do! Check out this excellent bathroom modification completed by Ace Renovation Group, working closely with Baptcare’s Occupational Therapist Melissa Leung. Some of the modifications include a more accessible walk-in shower, a handheld shower head to allow for easier showering and other changes that will make using the bathroom easier and safer for our home care consumer. Modifications like this ensure that our home care package recipients can live safely and independently in their homes for longer. Another bathroom renovation recently completed for a consumer. Mohana Sai Venkat Yenduri worked closely with Melissa Leung for their Baptcare client to amend their bathroom to suit our consumers needs with their new tiles and showerheads. Leaving our consumer very happy with her new shower. Ace Renovation Group
