It takes a huge amount of collaboration and cooperation to make it work. Did you know? Social protection programs can make a difference in maintaining peace and harmony within households. This was one of the key findings from the country-led evaluation of Malawi's COVID-19 Urban Cash Intervention (CUCI), a social protection program designed to support urban poor populations during the pandemic. The #evaluation explored the unintended effects of the program across three dimensions: 🏠 Intra-household tensions and intimate partner violence 💼 Participation in the labor market and investments in small businesses 💳 Financial inclusion Based on the results of the evaluation, the cash intervention helped reduce violence and disputes between couples. Discover the other findings.👇 The CUCI evaluation was led by the #Malawi Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, with technical support from GEI, CLEAR Anglophone Africa, and the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. This initiative was part of a broader collaboration between GEI and OECD Development's Global Evaluation Coalition. ⏪ #FridayFlashback: Last year, GEI and the UNDP Independent Evaluation Office sparked a conversation on what gender-responsive and climate-informed evaluation systems look like. Panelists shared insights, resources, and actionable steps on how to advance the Turin Agenda, a collective commitment to strengthen national #evaluation systems by integrating critical values such as gender equality and environmental sustainability. This commitment was first introduced at the 2022 National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Conference in Turin, Italy. As we look ahead to the 2024 NEC Conference in China this October, now is a good time to revisit last year's conversation and reflect on where we are on building gender-responsive and climate-informed evaluation systems.
