⬛ The BBB+ Method: Step 2 - The Belief ⬛ Last week, we looked at Step 1 - 'The Thorn'. Any thorn must to be attached to a stem. The stem in the BBB+ Advocacy Method is the underlying belief that has created the thorn, our Step 2 to explore today. Here's an example of a Thorn and Belief from a student: Thorn Statement: “I’m going to give up my instrument because I am not having fun anymore” Belief Question: “Why is it important to you that learning music is fun?” Belief Answer: “Well, music is fun to listen and dance to, so music should be fun to learn” Belief Question: “How does it make you feel when you can’t get something right the first time?” Belief Answer: “I feel uncomfortable and like I have failed” The student doesn’t like or isn’t used to the feeling of discomfort that comes from not achieving something easily. Their expectation is that learning music should feel easy and therefore fun, and when I’m not having fun, it is not the activity for me.
