Cancer Council NSW congratulates the NSW Government on announcing that a tobacco retailer licensing scheme is set to be rolled out throughout the state. Retailers who choose to sell tobacco will now be required to pay a fee and this will cover increased compliance and enforcement to tackle illegal tobacco sales in NSW. https://lnkd.in/gKqifPGx

Cancer Council NSW researchers have played a major role in informing changes to cervical screening on a national and international scale, with Australia being on track to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health issue by 2035. Building on the success of work previously undertaken in the Western Pacific led by Director of the Daffodil Centre*, Professor Karen Canfell AC, EPICC sets out a plan to work with partner countries in the Indo-Pacific for equitable outcomes. With this announcement, EPICC will be able screen more women in the region in the next four years. *a joint venture between Cancer Council NSW and The University of Sydney

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that starts in the mesothelium, which is the protective membrane covering most internal organs and body cavities. On average, two people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in Australia each day. The only known risk factor for mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. It can take many years after being exposed to asbestos (between 20 and 60) for mesothelioma to develop. If you’re concerned about your health or past exposure to asbestos and would like to know more, speak to your GP.
