About us
As WA's leading cancer charity, every day we're working to support families, prevent cancer, and save lives. From providing practical and financial support to West Australians affected by cancer, to speaking out on behalf of the community, stopping cancer before it starts, and finding new ways to better detect, treat and defeat cancer, every minute, every hour, every day we're working towards our vision of a cancer-free future. However, as a not-for-profit organisation we’re reliant on community donations to continue this work. Every time you make a donation, take part in a Relay For Life event, host a Biggest Morning Tea, Girls' Night In or your own fundraiser, buy a Daffodil Day pin or become a regular giver, you're helping us work towards towards our goal of creating a world where cancer’s no longer feared. We can’t do what we do without you, thank you.

We welcome yesterday’s announcement by WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson that will see anyone buying a vape via pharmacies requiring a prescription. Young people are especially at risk of harm from vaping, with those who vape being five times more likely to then try smoking compared to their non-vaping peers. These new laws go beyond the reforms introduced by the Commonwealth Government a few months ago and will act as an added safeguard to protect Western Australians from the harms of nicotine addiction and the toxic chemicals in vapes. Cancer Council WA encourages people who are looking for support to quit smoking or vaping to contact to the Quitline on 13 7848 or visit https://bit.ly/4esBhhG.

Our CEO, Ashley Reid, and staff were recently given a tour of the WA National Imaging Facility (WA NIF) Node. Cancer Council WA donated $500,000 towards WA’s first human research-dedicated MRI and PET-CT imaging technology. We are excited that this crucial infrastructure will enhance WA's participation in nationally coordinated clinical trials, providing patients with improved access to cutting-edge treatments and therapies.
