Streamlining Newsletter Subscriptions with Automated Payment Handling I’m excited to share a solution we implemented for a company to streamline their newsletter subscription and payment process: 1. Google Forms: Customers fill out a form with their details (name, phone number, email, etc.). 2. Webhooks to Directus: Upon form submission, a webhook triggers Directus to generate a contact record. 3. Stripe Payment Page: Customers are directed to a Stripe payment page to enter their bank details for monthly debiting. 4. Stripe Integration with Xero: Stripe handles payments and records all transactions in Xero. 5. Stripe Webhook to Directus: If a payment fails, Directus updates the contact record to mark the customer as ‘inactive’. 6. Directus: Manages all customer data and sends monthly newsletters to active subscribers. 7. Email Delivery: Customers receive the newsletter directly in their inboxes via Directus flows. This architecture ensures a seamless and automated process for subscription management and payment handling, providing a smooth experience for both the company and its customers. We realised the need for a method to retrieve passwords without relying on a password manager or requiring an account, and it also needed to be fast and hassle-free for our clients. Secure Foundation: The system's backbone lies in its use of standard web cryptography, ensuring secure, fast, and efficient encryption and decryption processes. Addressing Gaps: Unlike services like LastPass and 1Password, which lack a way to request secrets, Retriever allows users to share confidential information securely without needing a password manager, bridging a crucial gap in secret sharing. No Sign-Ups Needed: Retriever isn't a password manager and requires no sign-ups or accounts, making it hassle-free. Enhanced Security: The system encrypts the secret within the URL, ensuring only the intended recipient with the decryption key can access it. This adds an extra layer of security, as anyone needing access must have both the private key from the browser and the link. Prototype 20240503: Directus Jewellery I'm thrilled to share a recent project where we utilised Directus for a client in the jewellery industry. Our objective was to track jewellery items, materials, gemstones, and estimate prices using a specialised formula. Starting from a high-level discussion about their requirements, we quickly moved to action. Directus' flexibility allowed us to: Quick and Easy Deployment: We swiftly hosted an account and set up the environment. Structured Data Setup: Defined and organised tables and fields to capture essential information like jewellery items, materials, and gemstones. Client Access with Minimal Effort: Provided seamless access to the client, ensuring they could interact with the system without significant onboarding. In just one week, we transformed initial discussions into a tangible prototype, offering the client hands-on experience with Directus. This not only demonstrated the system’s capabilities but also built their confidence in its potential for their business.
