CBD Roundtable 29 Oct Another great session at Castlereagh Boutique Hotel this week, where we welcomed around 35 members and guests over coffee and sweet treats. The CBD Sydney Chamber hosts these roundtables monthly to facilitate to share information and identify ways in which businesses can work together. Participating businesses have at least two things in common: Firstly, due to their expertise within certain areas they "speak the same language" - so finding the points of commonality and potential for collaboration is more straightforward; and (while we welcome visitors) many of these are CBD Sydney Chamber Members, so they understand the objectives and high standards that the Chamber promotes among the businesses it supports. We used this week's session to share our plans for EXPO25. This is a significant event for the Chamber & its Members - designed to expand your visibility within the CBD business community and create opportunities for conversations with a many who may never have attended a Chamber event previously. Thanks to all those who attended! And we also celebrated Happy Diwali with lights and sweets courtesy of Nidhi Sharma! 15 Oct 2024 After 5 Networking | It's Small Business Month | Mental Health and your team WorkClub, 8 Chifley Square from 5.30pm The work environment has the potential to have an impact on your team’s mental health. Most of us are probably aware that ongoing work-related stress can cause both psychological and physical harm. Like any other physical health and safety risk, psychological health risks must be managed as part of WHS obligations of a business - it’s now a business requirement. But it’s not easy when the business leaders and/or business owners are themselves struggling given the challenges of the current environment. Creating a psychologically safe environment allows people to work in a way that suits them best and hence allows them to be the most productive – alleviating a whole heap of stress! So how can you create such environments where you can manage your own stress levels and at the same time create safe spaces for your team? The issue of the mental health of your team continues to be a key strategy that businesses - large and small - must embrace. During Small Business Month, we look to connect to this conversation through this keynote presentation by Ruchi Motial-Suri of Success Culture. Ruchi utilises neuroscience based techniques to assist leaders to improve work cultures and create high performing teams; and is a certified NLP master practitioner and international speaker, a Masters in Computers and a Bachelor’s in Physics. Be part of this conversation and make new connections within the CBD business community. NSW Visitor Economy set to grow by 40% This week Business Sydney hosted NSW Premier Chris Minns and Tourism Minister John Graham to launch and discuss the NSW Government’s Visitor Economy Review. The Premier announced that the MInns Government will focus on a more ambitious goal of $91 billion in annual visitor economy expenditure by 2035 – a 40% increase on the previous goal. The accelerated growth is expected to provide a big economic windfall for regional communities, with $44 billion (48%) of the $91 billion expected to be spent in regional NSW. Meeting this goal makes for some significant challenges - including the need for 40,000 extra hotel rooms (a 41% increase on what’s currently available), overcoming significant worker and skills shortages in roles such as tour guides and chefs and the need for increased business event facilities in Sydney, Western Sydney and priority regional areas. This announcement is important for all of our SME businesses within the hospitality and visitor economy sectors in the CBD (and regional NSW) - as the government develops initiatives and planning decisions that support this growth - creating sound reasons to more confidently plan to increase investment in business expansion, focus attention on digital technologies that make your business more efficient and secure, promote and market your services, develop strong leadership programs and training for your teams to ensure that the face of your business is absolutely the best it can be.
